I was thinking the same thing. All the TB players were crying about Omark spinning at center ice, and then Stamkos scores on a spin-o-rama PS, hmmmm. Any move is fair game, as long as no one is doing triple axles while celebrating opposing teams should just STFU and worry about their own game.

The difference between this move and Omark’s though is that it contributed to the play/move. You could argue Omark distracted the goalie, but a spin at the crease to have the goalie moving away from your shot is a lot different than some random spin at the blue line.

Mandingo, did you actually watch the goals? I couldn’t care less where each player was born. The spin Stamkos did was part of his move on the goalie. Omark’s wasn’t.

What is any deke if not an attempt to distract the goalie? If you’re not allowed to distract the goalie the only thing allowed is a straight-up shot.

On these spin-o-rama’s, doesn’t the puck for a short time go backwards, thereby making it illegal ??

I thought the same thing at one time Tony until, you know, I actually read the rule. No mention of moving forward, just continuation, which I assume they consider this move a continuation.

Yup, you’re right Paul. It’s discussed in the penalty shot area, not the shootout….
Rule 24.2
The spin-o-rama type move where the player completes a 360°
turn as he approaches the goal, shall be permitted as this involves
continuous motion.
