from Tom Gulitti of Fire & Ice,
Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said today that Vishnevski has cleared waivers and that the 28-year-old defenseman will play in Russia in 2008-09.
“He expressed a desire to go back to Russia for personal reasons and I respect that,” Lamoriello said. “We didn’t want this to develop into a situation September, so we placed him on waivers now and this will allow him to go play there.”

Kukla’s Korner is always a free service for readers, but it costs some money to maintain. If you’re ever in a position to donate a few dollars to help out, we’d be very appreciative.

Thats nice actually. No matter how it happened, whether VV asked to leave first, or if after being told he was being waived he said he wanted to go to russia, its nice to see a team respect the players wishes and let him leave.
Obviously this same kind of thing doesn’t fit all situations, as far as wanting a new contract in the middle of a contract, tell them hell no, or if they want to leave and go to another team mid contract, tell em hell no, but if they just want to leave the NHL and go somewhere else, don’t make a big deal about it, just let them go. If they ever want to come back, you get first dibs, so don’t worry about it.
