Vokoun Hit In Head By Stick Of Teammate Ballard

via the CP at TSN,

Florida Panthers goaltender Tomas Vokoun was taken off the ice on a stretcher after he was accidentally hit in the head by the stick of teammate Keith Ballard in the opening period of Monday night’s game against the Atlanta Thrashers.

Vokoun had a laceration to his ear but was alert when he was placed in an ambulance and taken to a local hospital, a Panthers spokesman said.

The incident occurred after Atlanta’s Ilya Kovalchuk scored a goal at 8:54 of the first period, knocking in his own rebound. In apparent frustration, Ballard swung his stick at the net, inadvertently striking Vokoun in the head.

The league should suspend him…my understanding is that you always have to have control of your stick, ergo, you are responsible when your stick inadvertently hits things——like your teammate’s head.

Idiot.

He’ll be on waivers after the game.  this will be all over the place tomorrow

if they aren’t smart enough to dump him, this will destroy whatever locker room chemistry that team might have.

Hopefully Vokoun is not seriously hurt.

Ballard will be on everyone’s Top 10 list.

Dumbass.

Maybe there won’t be waivers if his teammates beat him to a bloody pulp for taking out their own goaltender.  Just stupid - like zipping right out of your driveway without checking for traffic and getting smashed by a minivan.

Vokoun has an ear laceration and is ok.  He will travel with the team.

Ballard did go into the locker room to visit with Vokoun to see how he was.

This is just like that Surovy-Halak hit isn’t it.  I really want to see a goaltender just go ballistic after one of these deals; they have every right to.
