from Eric Duhatschek of the Globe and Mail,
It prompted the question: Is the NHL blockbuster deal, alive and well, after all? And if so, can we expect to see more of the same this season?
According to one NHL general manager, the answer is a resounding no — and here’s his rationale, communicated last week as I was doing my Saturday Satellite Hot Stove checks and mentioned how slow things were around the league.
His not-so-sympathetic answer was to laugh and say: Get used to it. His message was that in the second year of the new collective bargaining agreement, general managers had a much better sense of how to run their businesses — and more and more were turning to that long-established bastion of the salary-cap world, the National Football League, for guidance.
On a side note, the Doc told me I do have the flu, get rest and try to recover. I am going to take him up on the “rest” part- will try to update throughout the day but don’t count on it. I need some sleep badly.
