from NHL.com,
Moderated chat with Stephen Walkom, the NHL’s senior Vice President and Director of Officiating:
What is the feedback that you or other refs have received about the way the game is being called?
Stephen Walkom
We’ve had overwhelming support from the players, coaches and GMs, but most importantly, the fans. What steps are you taking to allow defensemen a little more leeway out front and to help protect goalies?
Stephen Walkom
None. There are rules in place to penalize a player that commits an infraction against a goalie. Therefore, we are allowing the defensemen to bump and get body position on the offensive player. However, we are not allowing the defense to use illegal tactics as we have in previous years to defend in front of his net. Specifically, in regard to cross-checking.
