from the CP via TSN,
(Aaron) Ward was not bleeding when he left the ice and did not leave on a stretcher, but coach Claude Julien said following Boston’s 2-1 win that Ward coughed up some blood before leaving the ice.
The 35-year-old Ward was skating toward Penguins defenceman Sergei Gonchar near the end boards when Gonchar got either his forearm or his stick up and accidentally struck Ward in the neck.
‘‘I got there and he was making a choking sound, holding his throat and gasping for air,’’ teammate Zdeno Chara said.

man. officiating this year has gone to the birds. non-calls on interference that woulda been called last year, calls on players for blowing air at the opposition, goals waved off emphatically by the ref because players screen the goalies ... this league is becoming a joke. it’s no doubt that fetisov thinks he can trump it with his own. Slava, just get good officials and you’ve got it.

The league is not just becoming a joke, it already is. It may be growing slowly in popularity, but it is soon going to lose many of its loyal fans. And I hope ward is ok. Does anyone know the extent of the injury, does anyone have an update?

The officiating in this game was just horrid and extremely lopsided favoring the Pens (specifically Malkin). If the league is making calls like they did last night everytime someone sneezes on Malkin, then it’s no wonder he is on this points scoring streak no one can literaly touch him! Case(s) in point:
1. Wideman stands up Malkin entering the zone - during the play, the puck is either on Malkin’s stick or in Wideman’s skates. Wideman called for Interference.
2. Malkin trying to cut in from the right wing, Wideman comes across and leans in with a tremendous shoulder/hip check. Wideman called for Kneeing.
3. Malkin leaving his own zone, skates past Savard, who smacks his stick on Malkin’s. A full second afterwards, Malkin falls like a tree. Savard called for Tripping.
4. Malkin streakin int the zone on the left wing, Savard taps him on the pants with his stick. Savard called for Hooking.
Ward gets hit in the throat by Gnchar who has the puck - no call.
The refs make up a ridiculous slashing call on Oittsburgh at their next contact of a player…
Ughhhh…
