Was It The Ducks Or Refs That Lost?

from Curtis Zupke of Ducks Blog at the OC Register,
Given 11 power plays, Toronto converted five, including two of three 5-on-3 advantages in a game that spilled out-of-the-margins even for the Ducks, who committed 17 of the game’s 27 penalties.
“We lost the hockey game,” Coach Randy Carlyle said. “Did the referees make as many mistakes as we did or did we make more mistakes than the officiating? That’s the way I always judge it.
If you go through a hockey game and you can make less mistakes than the officials make in the game, then you usually have pretty good chance of winning.”
That’s not to say Carlyle wasn’t disconcerted with the undisciplined play he saw Monday night.
“It hasn’t been an issue up until tonight,” he said.

Agree with TL… Ducks were very undisciplined all game and in this case the Leafs finally converted on their chances - that was not happening up to last night. Perfect storm I guess.

The Ducks have been an undisciplined team for as long as I can remember. I think we all remember how Detroit used it against them in the playoffs last year. To me, it’s the biggest weakness the Ducks have. They’re a very physical team, but they have a tenancy to lose their temper and get unnecessary penalties.

The Ducks take 17 penalties and they want to complain about a couple of bad calls. How about killin’ a couple of power plays against.

It was the Ducks, not the refs. The Ducks were awful last night, and deserved just about every penalty they got. You don’t get in line brawls and expect the officiating to be lenient.
