Watching And Following Hockey In The US

from Ken Warren of the Ottawa Citizen,
What a bittersweet weekend for the growth of hockey in the United States.
There’s no pressing issue in Canada, of course. When we’re not racing our kids to holiday tournaments or keeping tabs on our favourite National Hockey League teams, we’ve got the morning-to-midnight coverage of the world junior tournament to consider. Our fascination with a competition filled by way too many uncompetitive games is astounding, if not alarming. (Were you like me last Thursday, wondering if your pick-up goalie could have done a better job for Denmark, with Canada leading the not-so-great Danes 7-0 in the second period?)
I’m talking about the attention towards the sport south of the border.
For all the hype and hope behind today’s Winter Classic between the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers, there’s the colossal crash of the U.S. team in the world junior event in Alberta.
