via Michael Hiestand of USA TODAY,
NBC’s Boston Bruins-Detroit Red Wings game Friday — an attempt to expand NHL TV interest before NBC TV games start in January — drew a 1.0 overnight, almost what NBC averages for NHL regular-season games.
thanks to a KK reader for the pointer...

It was a great time to have it on with virtually no basketball, or football on.
And it showed a lot of skill, and yes, the shootout.
I think it was a great game that should bring people back at least to see either of the two teams.

A float in the Macy’s parade didn’t market to the target audience? What?
This is such a losing market strategy. NBC picks up the season in the middle and people wonder why there’s little interest in the NHL. Imagine the NFL did the same. Would anyone ever watch the Cleveland Browns? They have a hard enough time with the whole season to stink.

I think it is worth trying to make a “tradition” of having hockey on the day after. The schedule is always open other than some generally boring/meaningless college basketball and football. I think next year they should go all out though, and do an all-day thing—1pm EST game on NBC, 4pm EST on Versus/NBC Sports/Whatever it is called now, 7pm EST on Versus, 10pm EST on Versus. Just jam the schedule and get a full day of “national” hockey telecasts.

How embarrassing. Infomercials do better than a 1.0. Getting a little tired of Doc and his crew
