We Don’t Need The Cheap Shots

from the Chicago Tribune,
“I’m just ticked off about a bunch of their players taking free shots at us,” an upset Savard said after the Hawks’ 4-3 victory over St. Louis. “After whistles, taking cross-checks behind their heads and behind their backs.”
Savard singled out the play of the Blues’ Barret Jackman and David Backes.
“Our game is a great game; let’s keep it that way,” Savard said. “We have two young kids ( Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews) who are playing their hearts out. If it’s [Pittsburgh’s Sidney] Crosby or [Evgeni] Malkin, I don’t see any difference. We have to protect them….”

What? Jack-ass-man takes cheap shots at other players? Why, I’m shocked. Just shocked!
Jack-ass-man is rapidly on his way to becoming Pinhead Jr. And that’s a shame for the game.

Instead of complaining about it why don’t you dress a team that can protect themselves. As far as Backes and Hjalmarsson, both teams were going at it and those two were away from the play. Hjalmarsson did not have to drop his gloves but did. If Bolland had not slew footed Brewer this whole thing would not have happened. The funny thing is Bolland did not even get called on it when the replay showed clearly what he did. To do that to a player when going into the boards is beyond dangerous. As far as cheap play maybe Savard should look at a play made by his own player instead of complaining about the other team.

St.Louis taking cheap shots at the end of the game? Get used to it buddy. The Wings had to. I vaguely remember a chair throwing incident involving Joe Kocur after all our tough guys had been tossed for trying to stop this same thing from happening. Kocur was a bench coach of sorts at the time.

Savard-
Do yourself a favor and lower the expectations of Toews and Kane to those two.
They seemed to protect themselves fine last night. And if they need more protection you tell your team, don’t wine about it to the media and make them look soft. Its hockey.
