In a startling and no doubt temporary flash of insight, the NHL realized that there are, indeed, good hockey players and good teams residing west of Chicago and invited Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf to participate in a media tour this week in New York.

I wouldn’t dare say this when the season is actually on, but for now I’m willing to say that yes, Getzlaf is easily one of the 5 best all-around forwards in the game. He, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Richards are all great in all situations. Getzlaf is a little more streaky with his scoring than the other, but when he’s on a hot streak, he’s dominant with his size.
