What Are They Talking About

The Wings radio flagship station decided to talk some hockey before the game tonight.  They would have been better off listening to their program director, who has told them to keep the hockey talk to a minimum because no one cares about it.
First, the host asks the listening audience, “Can the Wings Compete?”.  Uh no, Mr. radio host, they win tonight, they are back on top of the NHL standings.
Then he decides to talk about Bertuzzi and mentioned he was schedule to return this Thursday, but won’t play until Saturday or next Monday (reports are Bert will play on Thursday night if his morning skate goes well).
He then stated he would try to get more information on the Wing injury status at the Joe tomorrow, if they practice.
If they practice?.  Hey, they are playing in Calgary tonight, won’t arrive home until 3-4am, Babcock may whip them into to shape at times, but believe me, tomorrow will not be one of those days.
On air guys at the Wings radio flagship station, listen to your PD, you are embarrassing yourselves.

no one on that station cares about hockey, doug karsh all he talks about is u-m sports-he’s a paid schill for them.gator anderson is a wannabe comedian.terry foster probably cares the most, mike valenti cares more about football and basketball.the best hockey guy on air is sean baligian, and then greg brady.unfortunately for detroit fans they are on wdfn, they have a show called icetime on mondays 7-9 when piston games aren’t on.wxyt should have given up the wings, they don’t care about them.

Typical Detroit sports radio. When the fans stop caring, the media stops paying attention.

I mean, you can’t really blame them. They are simply catering to their audience. But don’t even feign knowledge if you have none.

And don’t forget about this gem from the host of the post game show.

Detroit regrettably gets its sports programming cues--in every format--from the American Sports mothership.

If Jeremy Bonderman has a hangnail, that’ll get more on-air time on WXYT, WDIV, and the News than a Red Wings game.

We’re in a geographic area that has two elite NCAA teams, 3 OHL teams, and one of the NHL’s strongest franchises, and we’ve got the Red Wings’ flagship station firing Art Regner and installing a guy who probably thinks that a two-line pass is something that happens in football

Once they get to the actual broadcasts, things are excellent. But any coverage that any of the stations give to the Wings outside of the actual games is pathetic.

It’s painfully obvious that none of these guys watch the games the way we do, and most of them don’t even understand the rules of the sport.
