from George Johnson of the Calgary Herald,
The Sutter colonization of Calgary continues. Brent Sutter, to no one’s faint-dead-away surprise, will be unveiled today as the new head coach of the Flames.
The intrinsic qualities he’ll bring to the job sound eerily familiar. Stylistically, your thoughts drift back to those hard but prosperous days before Mike Keenan or Jim Playfair held the reins.
“I know he demands a lot of his players,’’ says New Jersey Devils’ checking centreman John Madden, speaking on his cellphone from New Jersey. “A lot.
“He’s not afraid to call out individuals, in private, in the room or in the front of the press. So a lot depends on your personnel. If you’ve got players who are soft, easily hurt, who take things personally instead of objectively, there’s certainly the potential for problems. If you’ve got the kind of personnel who, when he says something, it sticks, who are receptive, not sensitive, then things are going to run a lot smoother.
“He’s very clear about what he expects of people.’’
