from Joe Starkey of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review,
Who would have thought that after rolling through the first three rounds with a 12-2 record, the Penguins would look so utterly feeble in the final?
The reasons are many.
Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury has been ordinary, at best. The Penguins’ other stars, Hossa and Sidney Crosby, are barely noticeable, though Crosby had six shots last night and is facing the best defenseman in the world, Nicklas Lidstrom, on most shifts. Their role players are doing nothing compared to Detroit’s.
And, oh yes, the Red Wings are pretty good.

Saw this at the Empty-Netters Blog at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, from the EN writers:
It’s not over, but it’s not looking good. From where we sat, we saw two different classes of teams. One is efficient, sharp, disciplined, making the most of its chances and executing it’s game plan. The other is completely out of whack and getting frustrated. The Penguins better hope coming back to Pittsburgh gives them a boost.
That, in my opinion, about sums it up

Ha Jeff, maybe my influential talk with Seth from Empty Netters rubbed off.
He is a great guy and what he does on a daily basis is not easy, especially in a newspaper environment.

“It’s really tough to generate offense against that team,” (Therrien) said. “They’re good on obstruction. It’s going to be tough to generate any type of offense if the rules remain the same. It’s the first time we’re facing a team (where) the obstruction is there.”
Can you even imagine Babcock saying something like that if the situation was reversed? Maybe it’s not Cindy and Ginny who are showing a level of inexperience at this point. Maybe it’s their coach, someone who’s so outclassed by his opposite number right now that he has no recourse but to offer lame excuses. Even Starkey admitted as much.

Ok wait… a big media-type actually said something positive about Detroit? And not in a mean, back-handed kind of way? Wow. I didn’t think that was still possible anymore.

Best article I’ve read from a Pittsburgh paper.
Objective in the analysis of the game thus far, but honest in showing a little desire to see the Pens play better at the end of the article.
I am never one to have a problem with local writers, radio, or TV personalities showing that they support the home team, so long as they keep the analysis fair. So I appreciate this article.
