What To Watch

from Eric Adelson at ESPN The Magazine,
The league gets a mulligan for scheduling its thrilling outdoor game in Buffalo against the New Year’s Day bowl games. (What, Super Bowl Sunday wasn’t available?) But now, a far worse offense: the first three games of the Stanley Cup finals will be played at the same time as Games 3, 4 and 5 of the NBA’s Eastern Conference finals.
Who cares, you say? Well, just about everyone in Detroit, to start with, as fans here will now have to choose whether to watch the Red Wings or the Pistons. On Saturday, Monday and Wednesday, Detroit will face off against Pittsburgh at 8 p.m., and then Detroit will tip off versus Boston at 8:30 p.m

Is CJ’s post real? The tone is so preposterous, it sounds like a parody of Baroque on A2Y. Because, frankly sir, I do not have any Grey Poupon; I now cast aspersions on all Rangers fans. Paul, quit speaking for all NHL fans, even though you never have.

Hey, CJ?!?! Are you myopic? The article was written by Eric Adelson, not Paul.

CJ, Looks like you are having an issue trying to find the correct blog to post your complaint against me.
I see you have visited other posts within the KK blogs and you still haven’t gotten it correct.
Feel free to email me at if you wish to discuss this in detail.

It’s times like this when we really miss Thomas.

Go to you bathroom
turn off the lights
and say his name three times
he will appear holding an invisible excel sheet
:shudder:

I guess that’s the price of having two teams be in the playoffs at the same time, with both leagues trying to get their games on the same television schedule. Unfortunate.
(I’ve never been parodied before. I feel famous!)

Stanley Cup will be on in my house. This is, I’m sure, not a problem in Pittsburgh for fans of the Pipers.
It may even present a ratings boost for NBC in Detroit?

Somebody has to say it, so why not me?
Thanks, Gary. Ass.

Why is this not the NBA’s fault? Why does the NHL get all the blame..
Posted by Mike on 05/21/08 at 09:45 AM ET
The NBA already had its conference finals schedule set, so really, it was in the hands of the NHL.
If they were thinking about competing with the NBA, though, they might have ignored the Detroit situation so that they could avoid having to go head-to-head with Lakers games (which always draw the highest ratings).

Mr. Kukla,
I read your NHL blog and found the prophetic claim: Detroit fans cheer for their team and are above degrading the opposition. Detroit fans know their hockey and respect the game too much to do that. Besides, Sidney Crosby reminds us of a young Steve Yzerman. Yet looking above I find Sidney as the poster boy for feminine hygiene. I would submit that there are still Detroit fans willing to wallow with the rest of us here in the gutter.
I am a Ranger season ticket holder for the past 31 seasons and take offense at your ridiculous claim that those of us who know hockey cannot express our outrage at a league that deifies their young talent regardless of their on ice demeanor. I have chanted with my fellow MSG’s and even held up a placard or two; it is simply a way to have our feelings known. I would also be quick to remind you that the antics of the Detroit fans consistently cross into realms that may offend even a purist as yourself. If you do not think this to be the case, I suggest you step away from the terminal, put down the burrito and walk the isles at the Joe.
Your laments not only appear self-aggrandizing ( I must thank my friend J.J for the suggestions) but somewhat disingenuous. Judging from your photograph and your limited acumen I would venture to say that a Renaissance fancy boy you ain’t. Please do not claim to speak for all NHL fans or cast blanket aspersions either, frankly sir, you do not have the ammunition.
