from Ken Campbell of The Hockey News,
NEWS: San Jose Sharks GM Doug Wilson promises earth-shattering changes, then spends the summer doing almost nothing to his roster.
VIEWS: Perhaps he’s still waiting around to make a deal for Heatley. Perhaps Wilson’s decision to not make a bold move will prove to be disastrous for the Sharks. But there’s also the chance that doing nothing might be the best thing for him to do.

Sharks and Bruins last year was an aberration. Maybe they should slack off during the season and secure a mid seed so that they have longevity in the playoffs.
To pin the failures on Nabokov or Thomas wouldn’t be prudent, there were plenty of crummy goaltending performances in the playoffs (ahem…fleury) and I wouldn’t consider these guys suspect (especially Thomas).
It seems every year the top seeds take the teams that fought for playoff berths for granted and it can cost them.

It’s just too bad that Nabokov “chose” a bad time to be in his off game. The last few playoffs, he’s been the only reason they’ve made it as far as they did the previous few seasons. I hope he’ll have a much better year ahead of him.
The Sharks should go for fifth place in the conference. It seems the higher up we finish in the regular season, the less time we spend in the playoffs.
He isn’t bringing back the older guys that didn’t do much in the playoffs and the season which is a step forward. As long as he decided not to sign Chelios, I think we’ll be in the clear. His biggest mistake last year was signing Lemieux. Anyone notice that when Lemieux started playing games, the Sharks started declining in their game? I swear that the second he stepped on the ice, the Sharks were done for.
Several other changes was not signing Grier, Goc, Moen. Another was completely starting the Captaincy “issue” from scratch. As a lot of people have said, a major overhaul isn’t always the best idea. But I do believe this is the last year for redemption with this specific team. If this team fails again, a fresh approach is in the cards for next year when 15-20 million opens up in salaries.
An avid Sharks fan…

Don’t expect much from Doug Wilson, he talks a great game, but never backs up his talk. He has already started back tracking. First it was changes, then minor changes, now the team won’t be finished with its roster until March, and on and on we go.
Right now it is so bad under the Wilson regime that we have only 18 skaters signed and are 300,000 over the cap. We cannot even sign RFA Torrey Mitchell to a contract, meaning come the start of practice Mitchell will not even be able to skate with the team, because of Wilson’s ineffectiveness.
The off-season has amounted to one change, the signing of cheap shot artist Scot Nichol. Stanley Cup here we come.
