Where’s The Offense?

from Tim Sassone of Between The Circles,
You thought the Hawks caught a break when Sabres coach Lindy Ruff decided to rest Ryan Miller and start Lalime with his 4.54 goals-against average and .836 save percentage. But the Hawks are in such a funk offensively that it didn’t matter.
The Hawks lost 2-1 a game they should have won. That’s 10 goals scored in the last seven games.
“That’s a team that’s beatable, in my opinion, and we just didn’t play well enough coming in here,” Jonathan Toews said….
I’m still willing to give Marian Hossa the benefit of the doubt, but are the Hawks paying him $7.5 million this season to cycle pucks? Hossa’s not going to score 30 goals from along the boards.

Willing to give Hossa a chance? He’s produced seven points in eight games after a serious injury. Sassone sure is one magnanimous guy.

Hossa is an all world talent, but the was playing on the perimeter waaaaayyyyyy too much during the playoffs last year; thus the 6 goals in a whole whopping 3 games in during the whole playoff run. He’ll pop in his share of goals, but Hawks fans don’t expect him to show up when the goin’ get tough….

Hossa is just recently back from shoulder surgery, and has been far from useless. If Chicago media and fans want to rip on anyone, they would be better off looking elsewhere. Once he fully heals, Hossa will do his part.

It’s Chicago, Baroque. The first thing the media does when their team doesn’t perform up to expectations is bash their own players.

I’m just surprised that Huet and Niemi aren’t giving up 5 goals a night. That’s quite an achievement.

Thanks for posting this one Paul. It does warm the cockles of my Red Wing lovin’ heart, especially the reader comment about Kopi being a touted 3rd/4th line player because of all talent on the team. Uh, no. He was just as useless in Detroit as well and we don’t miss him one little bit. And what’s this about getting frustrated with Hossa? I’ll be chuckling to myself all day over this piece.
