Who Could Or Not Be Interested In Meszaros

from Craig Custance’s Blog,
Since the Andrej Meszaros camp isn’t being real helpful in identifying the team that has made a reported offer sheet to the young defenseman, I’m trying to figure it out the old-fashioned way: The process of elimination. Sure, it’s not real efficient but on a Friday afternoon when there’s not a ton of hockey news to chase down it’s entertaining....
I’ve got a confirmed no on a signed offer sheet from the GM’s of three teams I thought might be possibilities: Atlanta, Phoenix and Columbus.

I saw that, could be true, but i’ll only believe it when i read it somewhere reputable
He says TB is sending their 2nd in 2010… so, if ottawa matches, they’ve traded a 2nd for a 3rd, and if ottawa doesn’t match, compensation essentially ends up at least 1 1st, 2 2nds, and a 3rd… on top of the 5.? million
I’m not sure i understand the logic here… they’ve already got offence from the back end, but they’re desperately short of shut down guys, and I can tell you, Mesz is no shut down guy… i have a feeling tampa is going get awfully used to losing 7-6 and 8-7 games this year

They’ve invested alot up front, but like you, me thinks there’s going to be many a long night in Tampa with that defense group, and Mike Smith as your puck stopper.
Mezz earning 5 mill a pop is astounding to say the least.

Phoenix and Columbus were the two I’d pegged as realistic candidates. If it was Tampa, then...wow.
From what little I know of Meszaros, it seems like there’s a small chance he’ll develop into a Rafalski-type #2 defenceman. But even disregarding the salary, that’s an awful lot of picks to pay for that chance. If they’re expecting him to be a straight-up replacement for Boyle in the next two seasons, I think they’ll be disappointed.

Mezz is a decent, even, above average defenseman. He had one great year, which coincides with Chara’s time in Ottawa.
Since Chara left, it seems as though every Ottawa’s defenseman’s performance has slipped. Seems like his numbers were due in large part to riding Chara’s coattails. I maybe wrong, in that is was actually Phillips who played with Zdeno.
He can do a little bit with and without the puck, but he’s no Dan Boyle.

Breaking News: No Trade Betweem Tampa and Pittsburgh
That’s right! I’ve got breaking news too:
No Trade Betweem LA and Atlanta
No Signing of Sundin
Can’t we just assume No Trade until we hear otherwise?
