Who Has The Ball?

from Dave Waddell of the Windsor Star,

Though word leaked out this week that Detroit had offered former Wing Jason Williams a one-year deal, neither party seems in a rush to consummate the reunion.

Williams hasn’t gotten back to Detroit about a decision while he checks out the market and the Wings are looking elsewhere in the meantime.

“We made him an offer for one-year awhile back,” Holland said. “It’s in his court now.

more on the Wings and Williams used basically the same quote as Holland a few days ago, ‘The ball is now in the Wings court”, so I guess the ball is somewhere at mid-court with no one touching it.

...Holland said neither Svoboda or himself attended the hearing. The two men agreed to have other parties take care of the procedure.

“It’s highly unusual and I can’t take about why we agreed to it until after the decision is released,” said Holland, who expects the arbiter’s decision to be released this weekend. “I’ll explain it fully then, but it won’t change anything.”

Intriguing… I wonder if part of the reason is to attempt to keep the usual post-hearing animosity to a minimum.
