from Chuck Gormley at the Courier-Post Online,
With the NHL trade deadline less than two months away, some high-profile players already are being mentioned in trade rumors as teams try to trade heavy contracts for prospects.
Two of the most intriguing names are Mats Sundin and Jaromir Jagr. Some believe Jagr would rather retire than leave New York and it’s unlikely the Rangers will move the struggling, but still dangerous, right wing.
But if the Leafs continue to struggle, Sundin could be placed on the blocks, if only as a three-month rental. The problem in Toronto is that John Ferguson, Jr., could be on the way out and trading Sundin almost certainly would hasten that decision.
Others scheduled to become UFAs after this season are forwards Daymond Langkow, Mike Comrie, Sean Avery, Krisitan Huselius, Ryan Malone, Markus Naslund, Mark Recchi and Michael Ryder and defensemen Wade Belak, Dan Boyle, Brian Campbell, and Wade Redden.
