Nearly four months after becoming a free agent, Shanahan is putting himself onto the open market.
“I’ve told Rick [Curran] that I can no longer wait and that it’s time to move on,” Shanahan, referring to his agent, told The Post this afternoon. “Until now, Rick has been under instructions to tell inquiring teams that my focus was on re-signing with the Rangers, and that I was not accepting any other offers.
“That has changed.”

I wouldn’t be shocked to see him with the Pens. He was rumored to be letting Ray Shero know of his interest in Pittsburgh. They could use some veteran muscle in front of the net.

Suddenly imminent rumours pick up, and there is no need to wait until the new year on this one. Please let this mean that, at most, we will only see a week or two of this though.

He’d make a great addition to the Preds; they could use a short-term fix to add some scoring on the wing and bolster the power play. The question, of course, is what kind of payday he’s looking for…

In a related story, the 30 NHL GMs have just released this statement in concert:
“Until now, our GMs have been under instructions to stay away from old, slow and expensive forwards who play next to no defense and that we were not accepting any applications from such at this time.
That has absolutely not changed.”
