The Inquiring Minds at Kukla’s Korner ask: Is it Bill Ranford?
That was Paul’s best guess based on these clues, and I’d have to agree.
From CBC,
Thieves in New Westminster made away with a bounty of valuable and distinct watches that belong to a retired NHL player.
Police say the player wishes to remain anonymous but is urging local pawn shops to look out for the sentimental items. These include a silver TAG watch with the inscription “Once an Oiler, Always an Oiler,” and a gold face watch with the Stanley Cup and Edmonton Oiler’s logo.
They also made away with a Chicago All-Stars watch, a pair of world Championship watches - one from 1993 and one from 1994-two NHL Players Association watches and a Canada Cup time piece.
The player’s name is not inscribed on any of the watches.
Whoever it is, it’s a terrible loss of some very treasured momentos.
added 7:26pm, from the Edmonton Journal,
Former Oilers goalie Bill Ranford was at a neighbourhood watch party when someone broke into his home and stole his collection of hockey watches.
Ranford, who lives in the posh Queen’s Park area of New Westminster, B.C., discovered the theft after the July 2 party.
