Why Don’t I…

•For the majority of posts I do, why don’t I include some commentary?
KK was built for readers to respond, not me. On occasion I will put my two cents worth in, but I try not to influence the readers with my opinion, because that is all it is, an opinion.
• Why don’t I get rid of Abel to Yzerman or some of the other blogs?
First off, it is a Detroit Red Wings blog for the fans and is heavily slanted towards the Red Wings. Bill (IwoCPO go way back) and he has done a great job of attracting readers and maintaining those readers. When a blog gets between 500-1200 posts in a game day blog, you know he is doing something right.
I’ve never been the type of person who even looks at numbers, I prefer content to bulk and Bill has been able to both.
Remember, it is a Wings blog and also, in the near future, KK Members will have the ability to block any KK blog they so desire from the KK Homepage. They will also have the ability to block and comments from any KK Member if they so desire.
•Why don’t I get more rest?
Why, I would be doing what I do even if I did not run KK. Just trying to share as much hockey news with fans like me and do it quickly and in a way that will get some conversation going.
• Why don’t I charge a service to read KK?
Never, never, never, that makes no sense. However, if you wish to donate, you can do so here.
I try to run a ‘clean’ website, meaning no pop-up ads, no auto-play video or audio ads. Yes, those ads do pay more per 1000 views, but I don’t appreciate those types of ads and I don’t think you do either.
• Why don;t I tell you who the new KK bloggers will be?
Some bloggers have already introduced themselves, others will soon and still a few left to chose from.

Thanks Paul,
but I think it’s stupid you need to even answer these questions (at least other than the first and second last ones I guess).
Oh, and on your last question you put in a semi-colon on ‘don’t’ instead of an apostrophe.

will you still IP-ban users who post things you don’t like?
Posted by stinky fish taco on 09/03/10 at 01:48 PM ET
I don’t ban people for things I don’t like, However, they will be banned if there comments are rude, crude or just childish.
Remember, each KK blogger does control the comments in their own blog, but I can also step-in if I feel a need to do so.

i don’t ad-block this site becuase you don’t run that crap. if you did run those ad’s, i’d be blocking all ads on your site…

It’s a wonder what acting in a civilized matter can get you in life sometimes, and I have no reason to doubt Paul has acted reactionarily, irrationally, unfairly, or in an uncivilized manner on his website.
Posted by NathanBC on 09/03/10 at 01:07 PM ET
Paul, you do a fantastic job and your site is still the basic staple through which I get my hockey news. I can’t thank you often enough for running things around here as well as you do while maintaining that openness with the readers.

Geez, can’t believe A2Y causes that much of a stir. In case people haven’t noticed, there’s been a strong presence from fans of a number of other teams in the sub-blogs of KK for quite some time. Sure, the new customization features will be great, but fact of the matter is each post shows what section it’s from, and it’s very easy to just… uh… not click the “Continue Reading” link if you don’t want to hear what The Chief and VooX have to say.

Keep up the good work Paul. You’re running a great site and we all appreciate it a lot

Will you still tolerate homophobic suggestions from your bloggers?
Posted by Claude from Colorado on 09/03/10 at 01:46 PM ET
What’s the policy on homophobia on your site, Claude from Colorado? VERY SOON you’ll be able to block homophobes (as will I). Is that not enough? If not, post the URL for your meta-blog and I’ll check it out.

A true and sincere thanks from here Paul. This place is absolutely a must visit for me daily even when I’m not posting a thing.

Not the place to discuss this. If you want to though, feel free to email the blogger in question and :cc me too.

Re: the 2nd question: sure, freedom of speech, but A2Y is home to a lot of homophobic, childish, occasionally racist, ignorant speech. And sure, these fools revel in their ignorance, but the rest of us with some idea of civilisation are looking forward to that block feature, Paul.
But, I do think you don’t get enough credit for running the best overall hockey site on the web, even with those morons around, this is the only site I check daily for a hockey fix. Thanks, Paul.

Re: the 2nd question: sure, freedom of speech, but A2Y is home to a lot of homophobic, childish, occasionally racist, ignorant speech.
So do the main KK comments. Paul just cleans them up. A2Y rarely ever censors anything. Personal choice. You don’t like it? Don’t read the blog. It’s that simple.
To be honest, VooX’s attempt to skewer Albom (as if Albom isn’t already a joke) irks me more than anything else that’s been said or done on A2Y. But to each his own.
Nobody’s making you guys read anything. Remember that.

I think the way you run this site is universally admired, Paul, but each time you announce upcoming changes I get nervous. It has happened so many times, and always worked out, that I am actually looking forward to the changes you have upcoming.
I think your readers will eventually regret blocking certain blogs or commenters. Even the most annoying of your contributors occasionally come up with gold. I will think long and hard before blocking any of them, simply because the author and/or the reader are both expected to have bad days.

It’s dangerous to throw a group of people into one bucket. I’ve met some very intelligent people on the A2Y boards.

Thanks for everything Paul. You’re the man.
Btw, I have adblocker running on my browser. Does that effect your ad revenue? I can turn it off when I visit.

Yes it does but the decision is up to you. I would never tell someone to turn off adblocker.

Paul, you’re the Emperor! Thank you for my ability to open just one site and knowing out all the news instead of surfing dozens of blogs and a bunch of portals. Keep it up!

I really do not understand what is so difficult about not reading Abel to Yzerman or any of the other blogs here if you know you do not like the blog and/or some of the people who comment. I guess some people just like to complain. Repeatedly. This is just my opinion, but It becomes tiresome to read the same complaints by the same people over and over, when Paul has explained his stance on A2Y several times previously. As others have said, if you don’t like it, don’t read it. There are several blogs here that I don’t read because I’m not interested in the team, or I don’t care for the blogger.
Paul, thank you for all that you do. Your site is one I visit multiple times a day, all year long. You are a class act, and I appreciate all the work you put into this site.

Me too. For instance, I’m not a fan of TPSH, but won’t block him, because the comments are usually very good.
Btw, I have adblocker running on my browser. Does that effect your ad revenue? I can turn it off when I visit.
Sorry, Paul, but me too. I tried going adblock-free but it took too long to load pages (it sounds like a lame excuse, but we do have a depressing slow internet down here).
And of course, thanks for the site. Not only for the freak 19s (and introducing me to some amazing fake [not anymore] friends), but for your great knack for finding news. KK is my main hockey site by site, and your credibilty is always way up high.
Thanks and congratulations.

I was thinking the same thing, Gramps. I don’t know if I’ll outright block anything (not counting a couple clear and obvious troll who need to go) because you never know what you’ll miss.
I do have to say, I like the looks of the new bloggers so far. Here’s hoping they all stay active.
Posted by Primis on 09/03/10 at 06:55 PM ET
Paul, This my second favorite blog on the planet. If I need Sabres news I go elsewhere. If I want honest accurate news about any other nhl topic, I visit you. Yes, I understand this place has a heavy Red Wings slant. So What. I recommend this place to fans from every team. You write quality pieces and the rest of your writers are talented and mostly entertaining. Keep up the good work and thanks. Don’t change a thing.

And thank god for that one; I visit this site so many times I might as well make it my homepage. I’d be heartbroken if video scurrying away from my mouse cursor suddenly plastered the site and marred all that good content.
Keep up the good work, Paul, the site’s in good hands.
And do get some rest every now and then.
