from Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune,
Hawks captain Jonathan Toews was crunched with an open-ice hit from Willie Mitchell in the third period and didn’t return. Defenseman Brent Seabrook also left the game with an injury as the Canucks won 3-2 at the United Center.
Coach Joel Quenneville said after the game both players would be evaluated Thursday.

It irritates me how much hockey announcers have to say “this is a clean hit” after every big hit (whether it’s actually clean or not). It’s almost like they have to justify it right away, as quickly as possible, so the NHL doesn’t come under fire for any dangerous play.

But it was a clean hit…

What I hate is people now getting in scrums after clean hits. If a hit’s clean I don’t want to see play stopped because some clown thinks he has to defend his teammate when his teammate should have had his f’ing head up.

Clobbered. Plus the usual nonsense after a hit.

I was really happy to see a good, hard and clean hit laid. You don’t need to leap or launch to lay someone out (though of course, that didn’t prevent an injury in this case). Hope Toews is okay.

Clean as clean gets. Suicide pass and head down is a bad combo kiddo.
I can’t stand all the shenanigans on the ice after perfectly good hockey hits, regardless of who’s on the receiving end.

It was a legal hit. But it was a cheapshot and was intended to injure. Mitchell is a puke and he saw a chance out of the box to blindside a guy and put him out of the game. The Hawk response was not nearly as strong as it should have been. That punk would have been eating lumber from his spleen if it had been my captain on the wrong end of that garbage. Tough hockey is not taking someones head off just because he isn’t looking.

I agree - this is a clean hit by the rulebook.
Actually it’s a hit that should’ve resulted in a breakaway but the refs stopped play for the stupid scrum. That should never happen. Play should continue if there’s a real scoring chance happening as a result.
