Wilson Can’t Fix Leafs Problems

From Damien Cox in the Toronto Star,
Look, Cliff Fletcher stated categorically on April 7 he wouldn’t be the one to fire Paul Maurice. A month after that, he contradicted himself and fired Maurice, saying it was his job to “clear the decks” so the next GM could make his own choice.
And yesterday? Why Fletcher contradicted himself again and hired a coach to a huge, long-term deal, thus clogging up the decks again. Best to write down things the man says in pencil, methinks.
Wilson’s a good coach, but Maurice was a good coach, too, and good coaches can’t overcome lousy, overpaid players, misguided and/or short-sighted management and clueless, fixated-on-23-per-cent-return owners who think tradition is celebrating Tie Domi’s 1,000th game.

This part of the article is hilarious, though:
An experienced hockey man used this analogy to explain the Maple Leafs and their hockey operation.
“It’s like, the first guy up hits a double,” he said. “Then the next guy hits a single, but instead of running to first, he runs to third. And the guy on second runs to first.
“Then they say, `We’re the Maple Leafs. We can do it the way we want.’

Ahem.....clearing my throat for this....
Cox, YOU do it then. Apparently you have ALL the answers, behind that two-bit, 45 cent typewriter, so YOU do it.
Blaming Fletcher for this mess, or trying to start the blame on our new coach is NOT the way to do it. Chase one more decent hockey person out of TO. If the f’ing media (especially SUN media) would give ANYONE a chance, so be it.
Oh, and by the way, if he makes ONE comment about how the Leafs suck this coming year, and the fans shouldn’t have to deal with it, let’s bring up this article again about how the leafs have to lose for years first. Because that’s what 25 NHL hockey players want to do. Lose, so that the draftee coming in next year can take their job.
God I hate this man.
