Wings Bring Sexy Back

From Steve Schrader at the Free Press:

[Jay] Leno also asked if Timberlake taught them anything in return for the hockey lessons.

And the Wings launched into Timberlake’s tune “SexyBack,” singing “we’re bringing sexy back” once and then switching to “we’re bringing Stanley back.”

I love it. I wish they had had more time to talk. And can I just say how much I despise Jay Leno? Sitting through his monologue waiting to see Ozzie and Lids was awful. And he kept saying Lindstrom. UGH.

But the “we’re bringing Stanley back” rocked. Love it.

Anybody have a clip of them on Carson Daly’s show?

Thanks for posting. I forgot they were going to be on last night. Does anyone know if any other appearances have been announced (e.g., Letterman, Conan, Kimmel)?

Did anyone notice that when Nick and Ozzy came in, the Tonight Show band played them in the the ESPN National Hockey Night music?

While I find that a fitting tribute, you’d think an NBC show (since NBC has NHL rights now) would avoid using a rival network’s theme.

I guess it’s just that ingrained to AMericna hockey culture at this point.

Was it a thrill to win? What a question.
Most of us know Ozzie’s got a sense of humor, but it’s nice to see Nik outside the “lines” of his normal quiet personna.

I think they deserved more time than they were given on the show. Maybe a chance to sit down, answer some questions from the audience. After all, a vast majority of Americans probably have no idea what a Stanley Cup is, much less why it’s so big and why it doesn’t have a handle.

@Jennifer

I know Ozzie said he was going to be on w/Daly, but I watched the shopw last night and he wasn’t on.  Maybe it’s tonight or maybe Ozzie got the wrong host {he actually was prompted by Wojo(?) with Carson Daly’s name when he mentioned “another show” on WDFN Monday-could also be Kimmel or Ferguson}.  Ozzie is still out there in Cali to do the Love Guru premiere and he’s going on Jim Rome Is Burning today too, which should be a good interview (Rome actually knows about hockey).

Carson Daly will air the Wings’ segment on Thursday, and I’m in agreement with everyone who suggests that Leno should have given the boys more than a bit part, especially given that Leno’s such an ardent Detroit-basher.

More stops on the Osgood/Lidstrom Hollywood Tour. From NHL.com:

Red Wings goaltender Chris Osgood will be the guest on the Wednesday, June 11 edition of “Jim Rome is Burning” at 4:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.

On Wednesday night, Osgood and the Stanley Cup will walk the red carpet of “The Love Guru” movie premiere. Among those expected to attend the premiere are defensemen Rob Blake of the Los Angeles Kings and George Parros and Sean O’Donnell of the Anaheim Ducks. Blake plays himself in the film, which features the Toronto Maple Leafs’ pursuit of the Stanley Cup under the guidance of the Guru Pitka, a self-help spiritualist played by Mike Myers.

Osgood and Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom’s guest appearance with the Stanley Cup on NBC’s “Last Call with Carson Daly” will air on Thursday, June 12 at 1:35 a.m. ET/PT., immediately following “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.”

Too bad they couldn’t be on a quality show while out there!  Leno and Carson Daily suck.

I’m guessing it’s part of the NHL’s contract with NBC. I don’t know if it’s exclusive, but I’d be willing to bet they had rights to the first appearance of the Cup and it’s winners. Also, Letterman and Conan are both in New York. I think Kimmel and Craig Ferguson are in LA, too, but I’m not certain.

I heard Osgood on Stony and Wojo the other day. He seems like a natural for a media career when his playing days are over.
