Great pickup.

Drew’s a quality individual with local ties, and he plays a valuable all-around game.  Great 3rd or 4th liner for the Wings to plug into the lineup.

6’2” and 178 lbs at 25? Does he ya know, like eat?

Safe to assume he’s bound for GR…. I’m hoping anyway.

6’2” is good. Nice size.

178lbs is what?

And Detroit fans’ obsession with size continues…

As for me, put Miller in and take BertFloozy out of the lineup.  Has to be an improvement, considering the number of brain cramps Bert has on the ice…

This is a great pickup?  All around game?  Last time I checked, all around game included offense.  Great pickup?  Probably not.  Solid depth player?  Maybe.

Geez, maybe the injuries are making some of us delusional… good move to add depth to the organization, at best.

We took a flier on Patrick Eaves, and it seems to have been a nice pick up with a lot of value, and some real good potential going forward (if his foot is okay). Don’t expect it to happen again, let alone with a guy that has never shown any offensive promise at the NHL level, like Eaves has.

So the Wings picked up someone that was thrown away by Tampa?  Tampa?!
ummm, ok.

Just an observation. Being 6’2” myself & carrying 195 lbs…. this guy’s a peanut. Maybe we need someone for Lebbie to toss around in practice as a confidence booster?  LOL

He’s just a solid defensive minded depth forward to eat up 3rd/4th line minutes while our other forwards heal.  We only had 12 healthy forwards, now we have 13.  Plus this way if another forward gets the flu or something, we don’t have to call up a GR kid for 1 or 2 games.  There isn’t much to get, just a depth move with NHL experience.

Well, he was playing in ANA and TB, and not good ice time at that.  So of course his stat line isn’t Ovechkin’s…

MIller’s greatest asset is his head.  He thinks a very good game and understands it.  For that reason alone I think that he’d eventually fit in real well on Detroit.  He doesn’t have an offensive upside or speed of an Eaves of course.  He doesn’t need to though, that’s not his game.  He can chip in offensively (especially aroudn the net, where he has a good nose), but his best game is between the blue lines IMHO.  Pair him with a tenacious forechecker like Helm and it could make life very miserable for opponents.

I like the move because the Wings picked him up and it cost them nothing at all, and he can bring something to the table that the team needs (smarts on the ice, and some depth right now).

Yeah, a Spartan.  Nice guy, his wiki says he’s heavily involved in charitable work off ice, that’s a nice fit for the Wings character-wise.

I could see him getting a crack at the 3rd or 4th line for a little while.

Maybe it’s all part of Tick Tock’s big ploy to lure Ryan Miller over to our pond?

Didn’t Ryan Miller sign a long term deal with Buffalo last year?

Size, speed, smarts - all irrelevant.

Broken wrist?  Nope.
Broken leg?  Nope.
Torn ACL?  Nope.

Therefore - great pickup!  smile
