Wings Could Use More Offense From Bertuzzi

from Ansar Khan of Mlive,
Red Wings coach Mike Babcock is pleased with Bertuzzi’s skating and back-checking, but the big winger is committing too many turnovers and isn’t finishing. He has just three goals and nine points in 22 games.
“It’s frustrating not putting up the amount of goals and points I think I can do,’’ Bertuzzi said. “I’ve gotten the opportunity to do it, kind of (had) a handful of bad bounces here and there, could easily have six, seven goals instead of three. Just got to keep grinding and working hard. I know that it comes in bunches.’‘
Bertuzzi’s 60 shots ranks second on the team to Henrik Zetterberg (87), but he has the lowest shooting percentage (5.0) among forwards on the top two lines.
“He wants to score, we’d like him to score, too, but that’s not the measure,’’ Babcock said. “The measure for me is how hard you’re on the puck, how determined you are, how well you play with your linemates.

I’ts time to admit the Bertuzzi Experiment v2 was a failure, just like the first. It’s time to get rid of him and see what else can be done.
I can’t possibly imagine that there isn’t a single other healthy player out there that couldn’t fill or exceed Bertuzzsi’s current role.

Wow, good thing we didn’t give up on Dallas Drake so quickly. I feel like a lot of Wings fans were wondering why we brought him in, why we kept him, and then thanked the hockey gods that we had him in the play-offs. There is no way I could say that any experiment has failed a quarter of the way through the season. Remember that he wasn’t brought in to be a top line guy, but injury has forced him to be so. Relax, we’ll get Williams and Franzen, and Filppula back eventually and then Bert will go back to being second line TOPS.

Funny thinking how both Bertuzzi and Laraque make 1.5/year

Bertuzzi leads the club’s forwards with 18 giveaways.
Hell, he had 18 giveaways in last night’s game alone. And he must be the least physical “power forward” in the league right now. He spends more time dodging hits that doling them out. Miller showed last night what Bertuzzi should have been doing from the beginning of this season…going hard to the net.
I’m happy that he’s backchecking. Woo hoo. But if that’s all he’s good for, stick him to the 4th line where he’s not dragging Pavel down with him.
And “dragging Pavel down” is exactly what he’s doing. I’d like to see Babs move Eaves and Helm up to Pavel’s line and put Bert and Homer with Abbi…if only for one game. I bet you’d see a dramatic increase in the energy that Pavel brings to the game. Right now, the poor guy looks like he’s trying to do everything himself…because that’s what he has to do.

I’d wager most Wings fans find him offensive enough already. But some points would certainly help to change that opinion.
