Wings Fans, The Caps Owner is Watching You

from Ted Leonsis of Ted’s Take,
Many fans that were rooting for Detroit are actually our season ticket holders. They are happy Caps fans and loyal customers and they root for the Caps always except when we play Detroit. When we sell out the bottom and top bowl, the club seats go on sale via Washington Sports and some of those tickets get sold as groups or online to Detroit fans.
It is obvious that we have made progress. Perhaps ten percent of the arena was rooting for Detroit at yesterday’s game. I won’t rest until we have 100 percent Caps fans in our building but I admire what Detroit has built in terms of fan loyalty.

My bet is that fewer people get drunkenly obnoxious for a noon game than they do for a 7:00 PM game. Enter the A2Y 19 who are willing to start the drinking at 9:00 a.m…I’m not surprised someone noticed. I’m just surprised nobody got arrested. (I’m looking at you, RWBill
Hope you’re feeling better.)

If Ted only knew…..the Chief of the A2Y 19 was invited into the press box last season.

Blah blah blah… seriously Ted, piss off. The WIngs are in the middle of a protracted (for them) losing streak, so pretty much the last thing I want to hear is how some owner of an also-ran club is tangentally annoyed his overpriced ‘premium opponent’ tickets are going to the fans of said opponents.

I feel that teams offering “premium pricing” when teams like Detroit come to town only help to encourage this type of thing. There will always be some markup amongst individual tickets being sold, but if teams didn’t elevate value of the ticket to begin with, I would bet more season ticket holders would go to these games themselves since there would be a smaller profit.

Excuse me Mr Leonsis…..you will never have what Hockeytown has built. Dream all you like, and yes you have the most dynamic player in hockey, but it’s not enough. Hockeytown is about winning for years at a time, and multiple championships. Winning the Southeast division doesn’t put you into the elite class, its a good start, but its about championships.
