Wings Hi-Step Into Pittsburgh

from John Buccigross of ESPN,
It would be more appropriate to call the Red Wings the Red Army. Expressionless, machinelike, almost joyless, Detroit is marching through the Stanley Cup finals the way the Soviet Union marched through the early portion of the 1980 Winter Olympics….
So, Detroit leads the series 2-0, which will give Wednesday’s Game 3 in Pittsburgh a Game 7-type atmosphere. We all know the Penguins have to win Games 3 and 4 to have a chance. The Penguins improved in Game 2 and should play even better in Game 3. The Penguins are 8-0 at Mellon Arena in the postseason and have a 16-game home winning streak dating back to Feb. 24.
With that expected improvement and incredible atmosphere, I’ve decided to hit the road and take in Game 3 in person. Of course, I will sit among the people to let the passion, love and desperation wash over me like a cold shower after 18 holes at Oakmont Country Club. I will write about the experience in this space as well.

Well, SRT, it’s Buccigross so it’s probably not a complete thought anyway.

“Expressionless, machinelike, almost joyless”
That is a back-handed insult.
That is the view all across the NHL, because they hate to see excellence rewarded.
Jellousy. Envy. Bring down the guy on top.
Did he not watch the clip of Babcock when asked what it would mean to have his name on the cup?
Has he not seen the joy of celebrating the goals, and the verbal one-liners from even the injured Mule?
What about the dreams of Dallas Drake, the possibility of Dan Cleary taking the cup home to Newfoundland, or the wonder of rookie Darren Helm taking the cup to Winnepeg?
What would it mean to Hudler to take the cup to his dad in the Czech republic? Or Filpulla to Finland, or Kronwall to his mother?
Bucci can kiss my *ss.

Expressionless? Joyless?
Obviously he hasn’t seen Filppula’s smile after that goal he scored in game two.
What a moron.

Yup. No doubt about it. The Wings don’t have an emotional bone in their body:
example 1 or example 2 or example 3.
But the Pens are emotional too. It’s just a slightly different emotion.

Cold War terminology to describe a *Swedish* hockey team less than 24hrs after Memorial Day.
It’s like reading an undergraduate student’s paper.

Laughable. Clearly he didn’t do his research on Stuart before he made comments about Detroit likely not being able to keep him. All indications say the Wings at least have as good a shot as the field.
And this, this is a joke, right?
The Penguins have done a good job on Pavel Datsyuk. He has no points.
Yes, they’ve done a great job on him… he’s only been the most dominant force in both games. Look off the scoresheet for a second Bucci. He’s controlling tempo, physicality, and shutting down Crosby and Hossa.
Datsyuk looks like a forward version of Nick Lidstrom in these playoffs.

Ugh.
I used to love Bucci’s writing, but it’s become such uninspiring drivel recently that it’s hard to even make it through an article any more.
Perhaps he’s been Albom’d

That was a pretty lame comment by Bucci, but I am willing to let this one slide as he has been a decent Wings supporter in the past. Look, he picked the Pens pre-season to win the cup, so of course he is going to be rooting for them, but I bet he’d be just as happy to see the Wings win it al too…I hope.

.
Too much time spent hanging with Grapes and the Mullet. Hradek is the only one at ESPN worth a s*** these days.
