from Ansar Khan of Mlive,
Nicklas Lidstrom says he is a little frustrated. Pavel Datsyuk would not confirm as much, but his demeanor indicated that he, too, is confounded.
They are two of the Detroit Red Wings’ star players—two of the best in the NHL—but both are experiencing prolonged offensive slumps.
Lidstrom has not scored in 25 consecutive games and has only one goal and nine points in 27 games. Datsyuk, with six goals and 14 assists, is on pace for 18 goals and 61 points, which would be his lowest output in a full season since his rookie year in 2001-02.
Part of the problem, at least in Datsyuk’s case, has been a lack of productivity from his wingers

How many times does Bert run into other forwards? How many times does he turn the puck over? How often does someone go offsides when he’s trodding into the zone with the puck? He’s been with the team far too long for this to still be an issue. Sadly, Leino is no better. This team has no chemistry anymore, but uncle mike is chasing Canadian Gold instead of focusing his players on the task at hand.
There’s little point in staying so invested in a game the principals seem to have little interest in.

It’s not like there’s a ton to tinker with in terms of chemistry. Bottom line is that Bertuzzi is a terrible hockey player. Datsyuk isn’t playing great, neither is Lidstrom. I highly doubt it’s because Babcock is looking towards the Olympics, it would be completely counter productive.

Homer’s leading the team in goals. What’s wrong with Pav’s wingers?
Pav and Hank’s jobs are to make their linemates better. Z is doing that this season, Pav is not.
Pav has done it before, and he’ll do it again. It might be too late to salvage the current season, but with these two guys in tow, the Wings will be in solid shape for a few years to come.
