Wings Talking With Carter

Ken Holland was just on WDFN in Detroit and mentioned if he could get Anson Carter to agree to a one year deal, they just may have something. But Carter wants a longer term deal and Holland only wants a player to commit to a deal for one year. Ken also mentioned he is talking with a few teams who may have that type of player available. He is looking for someone to score 20-25 goals and also stated if things work out with this type of player, he would extend a contract offer like he did with Samuelsson.

That’s what they might like, but Carter was hoping for $3 x 3, and would probably be hard to get for less than $2.5 by himself. Maybe he’d take 2.25 - 2.5 for one year if the idea of playing with the Wings appealed to him, but neither side is in too much of a rush.

Owen Nolan....gritty, physical presence, will get you 20-25 goals, will come cheaply and wants a one year deal. Yeah, he’s not a great locker room guy, true, but I’ll take Nolan warts and all over a floater like Carter.

I watched Carter play on the Oil for years. The guy puts up decent numbers, but he _never_ scores when it counts. He’s the kind of guy who will pot two markers in a 7-2 win.
That, and he clearly doesn’t give a shit. I don’t think I’d sign him at all. That kind of attitude kills your team, especially if Carter is on the first or second line.

“Carter never scores when it counts”.... sounds like a perfect addition to the Red Wings!

He may have shaken that unimportant goal rap if he had one from Edmonton days, last year Carter had a very good 3rd period and game winning goal ratio. Carter had 7 game winning goals last year. Same as Kovalchuk, Heatley, Gagne, Hossa, St. Louis, etc. and 1 more than Shanahan.

My gut says that Carter’s trying to hold out for more term. KH said that the Wings’re just south of $40 million, and as such...I’d imagine that he’d want the “20-25 goal-scorer” and Franzen to cost no more than $2.5 million together.
