Would You Want Avery?

from Arthur Staple of Newsday,
“Had the league not have suspended him, the Dallas Stars would have,” Hicks said. “This organization will not tolerate such behavior, especially from a member of our hockey team. We hold our team to a higher standard and will continue to do so.”
To which I say: Give me a break. You’re telling me Hicks hadn’t heard a word about Avery’s penchant for classlessness before he approved the $15.5 million over four years?
Count Hicks as another hypocritical, clueless owner. He had no problems with Avery in July, despite the long list of behavior issues. Now, the Stars have a higher standard.
So, if the Stars are so mortified by Avery and want to be done with him, what’s next?
How about a Rangers reunion?

Only in New York would someone write about bringing back a locker room disrupter like Avery. I think Mr. Staple needs to do some research to find out some of the reason why the Kings in 2007 decided to trade Avery to the Rangers in the first place. He also should look into the comments that Avery’s current Dallas teammates have made this year about his antics. Fianlly, he should ask some of the Rangers players about how they felt about Avery’s antics last year. It’s clear wherever he goes his teammates can’t stand him and he distrupts the locker room.
Sean Avery is not a Claude Lemieux type player. He isn’t someone you hate when he is on the other team but love when he is on your team. Avery is a player you hate in general, on your team or not.

If there is a team out there desperate for publicity, albeit negative, then there is a market for Sean Avery. He’s an idiot, he’s not a great hockey player, lot’s of teams can get a pest that is at least respected by his peers.

...and who would the Rangers give up for him? Rissmiller, Prucha, and a prospect? That just isn’t happening

Avery is everything you hate in the NHL when he ‘s not on your team. These comments do not warrant a suspension. Anyone who thinks they do are is the same person that has ruined this country by agreeing to be part of the PC culture we now live in!!!

What’s Next? Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News chimes in…
The Stars can try to trade Avery, but his four-year contract for $15.5 million would serve as a huge deterrent in getting that done. They could send him to the minors and see if he would accept the assignment in hopes of getting out of the deal (officially, they could leave him there for four years, pay the total contract to him and suffer no cap hit). Or they could place him on recall waivers from the minors, and hope a team could pick him up at half the contract price (about $1.9 million a year).

Just some random thoughts…
Do you think the WIngs saw some of of his character flaws when he was with the organIzation?
Do you think he just doesn’t care about what his own lockerroom leaders say or think about him (I imagine Hull and Modano have both told him no stupid sh!t.....).
Did Shanny ever say anything to him after last year’s circus event?

avery is everything i hate about pro sports, and i hate him in the league on any team. i’d be furious if my team tried to get him. his contract is a sick joke played on good players in the league, he’s not worth a quarter of it. as a pest he does at least as good a job distracting his own teams as he does his opponents. he’s a sideshow, famous for everything but his hockey skills in a league that is great specifically because it’s all about the game not the personalities.
the league and the dallas stars will be better when he’s gone.

Reminds me of Dennis Rodman.

If the Rangers wouldn’t re-sign him last summer for the price/years he was asking, why the hell would they trade for him now? And that’s besides the fact that a few Rangers have said that they did not enjoy being his teammate, and keep talking about how this current team is very close-knit.
