Yashin Would Help The Islanders

from Mike Brophy of Sportsnet,
Yashin? Back in the NHL? With the team that bought him out?
Go ahead and laugh all you want because regardless of what happens with Yashin, the Islanders have poised themselves to take a significant step foreword next season.
Having missed the playoffs the past four seasons and in five of the past six years, there is certainly no guarantee the Islanders will make it into the post-season in 2011-12. However, based on their solid play in the second half of last season coupled with the fact they have a fine group of young and developing players, it shouldn’t be considered entirely farfetched.

Being an Islander fan (and one who was elated to hear of the Yashin buyout), I can honestly say that I support signing Yashin to a 1 year, cheap deal. Unlike in the past, he would not be counted on for primary scoring. This wouldn’t be Yashin’s team again - he would just be a piece of it. Although he’s old, he can still contribute offensively and provide some experience and maturity on a young Islanders squad. Not only am I supportive of this signing (it’s going to happen), I am excited about it.

So Yashin is writing the foreword in the new book “New York Islander: The Wang Years”? Come on, Brophy, you are better than that. Proofread!
As for Yashin bringing experience to mentor a young crew, why not go for a veteran who has actually been playing in the NHL more recently?

I’m not sure Yashin is the kind of veteran you want teaching the younger players. Yes the contract was silly, but he was bought out for a reason: he didn’t do his part.

They still are paying him for the buyout, so they don’t even need to give him another contract lol. Everybody WangChung tonight cuz the only thing Yashin is helping the Islanders with is getting to the cap floor.

Ok, I will laugh all I want because Garth Snow and Yashin are both jokes. The only thing that is going to help the Islanders is youth development. But please, Garth, sign Yashin. At least give us the punchline to it all.
