Year After Year

from the Tennessean,
But how does Detroit, which hosts the Predators in their first matchup of the season tonight, do it year after year?
The secret to its success seems to be a mix of luck and longevity. While centering play on a core of key veteran contributors, the Red Wings have drafted a contingent of young talent, which they have injected into their system and painstakingly molded into professionals.
The result is a continual influx of ability that complements the nucleus, easily replaces the departed, and prevents Detroit from the falloff so many other teams experience.

And people wonder why we look down on Nashville hockey:
“NHL points leader Henrik Zetterburg — who is in the midst of a 14-game point streak — is on one of the league’s top lines with Pavel Datsyuk and 11-year Wings veteran Henrick Zetterberg.”
Okay. Come on. First, you spelled the guy’s name wrong. Then, you mistook one guy for the other, and didn’t even spell the name of the wrong guy right. And on top of that, you managed to spell the last name right in the same sentence in which you spelled it wrong… ugh.
“...dominant goalie Dominik Hasek, who could return to the net tonight after missing the last several games with a hip injury.”
This article was posted this morning. After Tuesday practice, Ozzie got the call to start. Sure, it could change, but step out there and provide your readers with that detail. Then again, they probably don’t care!

In the cyclical nature of the NHL, it seems that most every squad has a rise and a fall — every team, that is, but Detroit.
Uh, except for that little “blip” of 42 years without a Cup. Well, I guess it’s good to know that the Wings are “in the heads” of other NHL cities. Especially those who don’t remember or never even heard of the “Dead Wings” era.
The secret to its success seems to be a mix of luck and longevity.
It’s also good to know that our team has enjoyed solid ownership that is strongly committed to winning for going on 25 years. The Nashville/Kansas City/Destination Unknown Predators should try it out sometime.

The secret is luck?
That is what they would like to believe, because it takes their organization off the hook and gives hope that the Wings’ luck will run out.
The truth is, The Red Wings are a fine organization with excellent personnel, a smart plan and a lot of hard work.

No luck involved. For sure.
Was it bad luck when we called them our Dead Wings? Absolutely not. They were the Dead Wings because the ownership wasn’t committed to winning.
They are what they are because Illitch decided he wanted to win, and has keep providing for his team. It starts and ends there. If he doesn’t do everything in his power to keep guys like Jimmy D., Kenny Holland, Hakan Andersson, and Scotty Bowman in the organization, this team will fail again. It’s that simple.
If a club has an owner dedicated to bringing good people into the organization, the club will eventually succeed.

Gee: I know that I am not terribly good at editing my pithy comments, but come on Jessica, you get PAID for this:
| “NHL points leader Henrik Zetterburg — who is in the midst of a 14-game point streak — is on one of the league’s top lines with Pavel Datsyuk and 11-year Wings veteran Henrick Zetterberg. Together, the trio has accounted for almost half of Detroit’s goals this season.”
The MSM slights poor Homer again!!!!
