The playoffs are here.
For players, coaches and fans, this is the time of year when hockey becomes an all-consuming ordeal. From the time you wake up in the morning on game day until the time they drop the puck at night, your stomach is in knots thinking about and waiting for the game to begin. It’s the same kind of knots you feel after a Raisin Bran-baked beans-blueberries all-you-can-eat fest at the local senior center. The playoff excitement, coupled with the slow warming of the weather, makes this time of year especially euphoric. The air smells better, the music sounds better and the cheese melts easier.
These are the good ol’ days. Enjoy them.

Please tell your network that there’s a game called hockey and that it’s in the post-season. Please tell them the Stanley Cup is the best looking trophy in sports, not to mention the hardest one to win. Mr. Buccigross, please tell them that there a lot of hockey fans out there who would start watching sport center if the NHL got even a little bit of love, instead of hours and hours and hours of boring baseball, boring golf, thugged out basketball, and another thugged out sport that is in the friggin’ off-season. Would you pass that message along, John? I’m sick of hating ESPN, but I will continue to do so for as long as they continue to snub my sport. Maybe they think they can live without us, and they’re probably right. But tell them that hockey fans are just as passionate about their teams (in about 90% of the cities) as any other major sport. This hate-hate relationship needs to stop, John. It really does.
