I was lucky enough to play pond hockey growing up as a kid, then made a step-up when all my hockey friends could drive, so we went the indoor route and rented two hours of ice in Windsor at 4:00am. Think it cost us about $24 an hour back then.

Kukla’s Korner is always a free service for readers, but it costs some money to maintain. If you’re ever in a position to donate a few dollars to help out, we’d be very appreciative.

Pond hockey was the best, the most fun I’ve ever had playing the game. Sadly I don’t see as many kids playing on the ponds anymore because it’s now all about organized hockey in arenas and that’s where the kids are spending all their time now. I really think they’re missing out on the fun aspect of it.
Pond hockey and ball hockey allowed you to be creative, you didn’t have to worry about a stick around your ears or cheapshots, almost always you were playing with friends and/or family, and it was all about fun, which after all is the point of playing a game.
After I packed in my rec league hockey days I always hoped that I could find a pick-up game of pond hockey around Charlottetown or that a group of friends would be willing to do so but sadly that hasn’t come to pass.
