I thought I saw it when it happened…“Wait a minute, did he just…?” Thanks to DVR I went back and looked at it again and sure enough, I was right. I thought this was a disgusting move by Kunitz…I guess I don’t have to wonder if I was the only person who saw it anymore. Did they talk about it at all during the post-game or anything? I didn’t hear anything about it on my way in to work this morning on XM204.

if the league had an brain they would take alook at it, there was intent but don’t forget bettman said penguins are the ‘model’ nhl team…...

Disgusting. Zero tolerance for that, and players will get the message.

Why isn’t anyone talking about the Oscar winning performance and dive Ovechkin displayed in this game? Why is it always Sid that’s the crybaby whiner and OV get’s a pass. Ovechkin’s dive was the worst in the playoffs so far and nobody’s talking about it. Typical.

Give me a break! This is still hockey right! If a goalie can’t take a couple whacks to a MASK, why is he in the NHL!? Hockey fans are getting soft man! Fleury almost got his head ripped off every game against Philly and no one was crying about it then! Especially not Fleury! Grow up people!

OV, Whaaa! & Mike Richards, your view of this incident would have more clout if you only used one name to respond.

I’m sure you would have nothing to say if Brashear did this to Fleury.
Fleury almost got his head ripped off every game against Philly and no one was crying about it then!
...until now.

It’s definitely suspension IMO (2-3 games) with that force that Kunitz hits him with could have seriously injuried Varlamov, and there’s no way that crosscheck wasn’t intentional.
I think I read somewhere that the Capitals have already submitted a request to NHL to review Kunitz’ crosscheck, and rightfully so, that was a cheap as they come.

Kunitz is Canadian, Varlamov is Russian, therefore it was the goalie’s fault that he got his head in the way of Kunitz’s stick when he was just playing gritty Canadian hockey.
Bingo. Thread over.

Maybe because Ovechkin dove, rather than crying about too many hats being thrown on the ice, making him sad.
Crosby a crybaby? Why would anyone think that?!?!?!?

The guy’s an ex-Duck, so 1, you shouldn’t be suprised, and 2, Duck’s don’t get suspended for head shots, remember?

i think kukla asked about the kunitz hit - so anyone talking about ovie’s diving is off topic. imo, it should be reviewed and disciplinary action should be taken.

Kunitz is Canadian, Varlamov is Russian, therefore it was the goalie’s fault that he got his head in the way of Kunitz’s stick when he was just playing gritty Canadian hockey. He should have had the sense not to follow the puck and look out for his surroundings. No suspension is warranted for this reason. (I guess you can take the boy out of the Ducks but you can’t take the Duck out of the boy.)
**********
But seriously, that was both nasty and completely unnecessary, and could have caused a wicked injury to Varlamov in the closing moments of a game where the outcome was pretty well decided. If that isn’t part of the “sending a message” theme of the NHL “brain trust” then I have no idea what exactly their point is in making those comments earlier. But a stunning display of non-logic wouldn’t surprise me in the least.
