Surprised Dallas didn’t bring hime back for another year.
Playing his last year(s) at home, guess I can’t blame him cause Dallas is going to suck again errrr still.

OK I admit, this one surprised me.
He’s fast on the decline from all the injuries, but I assumed 1 more year in Dallas was a given.

Dallas has talked contract with him but said they were waiting to see the shape of his hip in another couple weeks. The team doctors- who, in theory, should know his health better than anyone- are not convinced he’ll ever be able to play reliably again. But Dallas did, very much, want him back.
I wouldn’t be so certain Dallas is going to suck again. They were a pretty good team two year and have really only lost Zubov and Hagman (who is a good two-way 3rd line center type they were using as a second line wing). They’ve reloaded with James Neal, Fabian Brunnstrom (who was better than we remember) and have something like 4 defenseman under 25 on their roster. Steve Ott and Loui Eriksson both emerged as legitimate top-6 forwards as well.
I think Dallas is an easy playoff team with the potential to knock someone much higher seeded off.
After all, they managed to get up to 5th in the league with a month to go last year despite losing to injury:
* Captain and best forward, Brendan Morrow (played only 18 games).
* #1 center Brad Richards breaks both wrists (misses 30 games).
* #1 defenseman (Zubov) plays ~10 games.
* Top line forward and best two-way forward (Jere Lehtinen) misses half the season and is ineffective for another big stretch due to injury.
I think they’re probably the third deepest team in the West at forward (and possibly even second), with raw young defensemen and…
Oh wait. Marty Turco.
Yeah, let’s go with first round flame-out.
