‘The China Clipper’

from Roger Knox of the Vernon Morning Star,
Playing hockey was his job, and he took his skills east to play with the New York Rangers’ farm team, the New York Rovers, of the Eastern Hockey League in 1946-47. He played in 47 games, scoring 19 goals and 37 points.
The following year, (Larry) Kwong would make hockey history, becoming the first Asian-Canadian to play in the NHL, when the Rangers suited him up for a game in Montreal against Rocket Richard and the Canadiens at the old Forum.
Kwong, a left winger, waited for two periods before Rangers coach Frank Boucher finally tapped him on the shoulder in the third period.
On March 13, 1948, Kwong hopped over the Forum boards, along with the Rangers’ top two scorers, Buddy O’Connor and Edgar Laprade, and into the record books.
His shift lasted one minute. He didn’t score and it was back to the bench, never again to play in the NHL.

Keith Primeau Talks Brain Donation

TORONTO (April 2, 2009) – After a career cut short by concussions, former NHLer Keith Primeau speaks exclusively to Rogers Sportsnet about his decision to donate his brain to science after he dies.
Hockeycentral Leafs Edition will air the riveting interview between Connected reporter Arash Madani and the 37-year-old Primeau Friday, April 3rd at 6:30 p.m. (ET). Primeau discusses his decision to donate his brain to the Sports Legacy Institute in Massachusetts and how he got to this point.
“I think the beginning of my demise goes back to the playoff situation back in 2000,” said Primeau, who was with the Philadelphia Flyers at the time. “I got laid out at centre ice and got carried off on a stretcher. I stayed overnight in a Pittsburgh hospital, only to return two nights later against New Jersey. And that was ultimately the beginning of my demise.”

Feeling Good

The NESN Instigators, Mike Milbury, Jack Edwards and Andy Brickley were asked this question.
Which NHL team is the best feel good team of the season?
Milbury resonds,
My feel good story as a Bruins fan and as a member of Bruins Nation is Montreal because they have really screwed it up. In their 100th anniversary of their franchise, what could go wrong? Their celebrations were all wonderful and dandy but their goaltender of the future, the new Ken Dryden is confused — there are all sorts of issues as to what he does with his free time, along with the rest of the young guys who are on whatever internet spaces they can find themselves on.

Jacques Lemaire Back To Montreal?
by Paul on 04/02/09 at 04:30 PM ET

from Bill Clement of NBC Sports,
The Wild missing out on the postseason would likely lead Lemaire to strongly consider moving on. He’s the only coach in Minnesota franchise history, but it may be time for a change.
If he does leave the Wild, what’s next for him? Well, it may be a return to Montreal, where he starred as a player, and also coached the Canadiens for two seasons in the mid 1980s. He followed that by moving to the Montreal front office for seven seasons, during which the Canadiens won two Stanley Cups (1986 and 1993).

When Krejci Scores, Bruins Don’t Lose
by Paul on 04/02/09 at 02:27 PM ET

from Joe Haggerty of WEEI,
Take a guess at the Bruins’ record this season when Krejci — fourth on the Bruins with 22 tallies — has potted himself a goal. In fact, the Bruins haven’t lost a game in regulation this season when young Krejci lights the magic red lamp — they’re an incredible 19-0-1 in 20 games this season Krejci has scored. The Black and Gold are a similarly dominant 27-2-5 in 34 games anytime the center has registered a point this season.
That tells you that the Bruins are pretty close to unbeatable when Krejci’s offensive line is clicking and throwing points up on the scoreboard, whether the slick center is picking a top corner of the net or dishing off a perfectly-placed tape-to-tape pass to a teammate for a Grade A scoring chance.
