Andrew Brunette Playing With Injured Knee

from Michael Russo of the Star Tribune,
Wild veteran Andrew Brunette faces major right knee surgery after the season.
While General Manager Doug Risebrough and Brunette declined to identify the exact injury, it’s believed Brunette’s playing on a partially torn anterior cruciate ligament that may be fully torn.
“At the end of the year, we’re going to have to make a decision whether he’s going to need surgery or not,” Risebrough said. “It’s up to him, but he’s had two incidents of sprains, so that shows you a dysfunction of some sort."…
Asked why he doesn’t shut himself down, Brunette said: “It’s the same approach I take to every hockey game I play. I want to play. I’m part of this team and I want to help this team win. I would sell myself short if I didn’t try to help this team. You’ve got to look yourself in the mirror, and if I can get out there, I can help this team.”

from Michael Russo of the Star Tribune,
No hard feelings.
That was the message conveyed by Andrew Brunette on Saturday when asked if he wanted to return to the Wild if it comes calling when free agency begins Tuesday....
“I don’t know what their interest level is. But if they’re interested and it falls into place, if everything was comparable, if they were in range, definitely, that’s one place I’d love to play.”
Wild officials declined to comment. The Avs plan to let Brunette test free agency, but the Wild is still not allowed to talk about other teams’ players until Tuesday.
But it’s believed the Wild is very interested in bringing Brunette back to Minnesota.

NHL free agency is a week away, and there still has been no contact between the Avs and Andrew Brunette. Translation: He ain’t comin’ back.
Just got off the phone with Brunette’s agent, Don Reynolds, and he said the Avs have yet to even call him about anything regarding the potential unrestricted Brunette.
continued and little more detail on the Sakic situation…
