“For 15 years I’ve said that it should be mandatory and should never be the players’ decision, because you give us a choice and the chances are we make the wrong one. In saying that, I haven’t worn a visor my whole career and I’ve had no problem with it, either. So I think when it comes down to it we’re all men, we should have the choice, but for myself, if they tell me to wear a visor because I have to, then I have no problem with it.”
-Brad May of the Detroit Wings stating visors should be mandatory for NHL players. More on this topic from May by Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press.

via Ansar Khan of Mlive,
May on Friday said he called Chelios to ask if it was OK to wear the number and Chelios had no issues with it. May, however, said he hasn’t decided if he’ll ask the club for the number.
“(Chelios) was really cool,’’ May said. “I just figured it’s his (number). He’s such an icon, I figured I’d call him.’’
May wore No. 24 in Anaheim.
“I like the number—Chris Chelios, Bob Probert,’’ May said. “But I’m not sure what’s going to happen. I may ask, but now that I’m 20, who knows?’’

Good lord. Brad May is a Red Wing, signing a one-year, $500,000 deal. He’s a teammate of Todd Bertuzzi again (as they were in Anaheim a couple years ago).
I’d say this is further proof the Wings are on the way down, when Brad May is the most desirable signing option right now.

from Bruce MacLeod of Red Wings Corner,
If all goes well for the 37-year-old forward, he’ll wind up with a contract and a spot on either the Griffins or Red Wings roster.
May is not going with the Red Wings when they leave for Sweden, Sunday, according to Detroit vice president and general manager Ken Holland, May will not be offered a contract before then.
May can play for Grand Rapids without signing a contract, getting new 25-game PTOs (professional tryouts). But before he can play an NHL regular-season game, May needs a contract.
“I’ve been through a lot of different things, but I’ve never had a summer like this,” said May. “The phone wasn’t ringing off the hook. I wasn’t waking up to messages every day. This happened and it was right. Now it’s work. It’s out of my control. That’s what you have to do as a player, just show everything you have.”
