from Luke DeCock of the News & Observer,
In this series, there has been one goaltender at the center of just about everything.
From his complaints before the first game was ever played to his histrionics after Game 4 to his preposterously good performance in Game 5, Martin Brodeur has gotten all the attention.
After Cam Ward stopped 28 shots for the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday in a 4-0 win over the New Jersey Devils to stave off elimination and force Game 7 on Tuesday in Newark, the winningest goalie in NHL history may have to share the spotlight.
“Quite honestly, it doesn’t matter to me, as long as we win hockey games,” Ward said.

From Mike Sundheim of the Carolina Hurricanes:
Cam Ward was trying out new headgear at today’s morning skate, our first morning skate of the season. Here are some photos of the new mask, which includes some of the North Carolina themes of his past masks, along with a new twist… An evil stare from the movie “Cape Fear”.

from Eric Duhatschek of the Globe and Mail,
“If you look at our season last year, towards the end of the season, we were fighting for our playoff lives,” said Hurricanes’ goaltender Cam Ward. “You’d hate to look back at your early season, thinking or wishing that you’d had a better game here or there. Every game is huge. It’s not just all about the second half or the last week, trying to get into the playoffs. It’s about what you do the entire season that really matters.
“To get off to a great start, it does help the confidence of the team.”
Ward, the Conn Smythe Trophy winner in the ‘06 playoffs and the reigning player-of-the-week, is undefeated in regulation thus far.
“Right from Day One in training camp, you could definitely see the guys were a lot more excited and a lot hungrier,” he said.
