Kilger Just Walked Away From The Game

from Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun,
Tonight there will be no homecoming for Chad Kilger, the hockey player who has mysteriously disappeared.
He played his last National Hockey League game on Feb. 25 in Ottawa. The Maple Leafs won 5-0 that night. The next day, knowing nothing of the future, the Leafs traded him to the Florida Panthers.
In the hockey world, that was the last anyone saw of Kilger.
With more than $1 million US still owing on his contract, and without warning, “playing the best hockey of his life” Kilger never reported to the Panthers.

from George Richards of On Frozen Pond,
Spoke to JM today, and he says he does not expect Chad Kilger to play for the Panthers this season....
“He’s still dealing with some personal issues, and at this point, I don’t think he’ll be playing,’’ Martin said. “We still hold his rights. He’s indicated to me that if he were to play, he’d want to play for us. We’re not the issue.’’
On a more positive note, JM says he’s spoken to both Richard Zednik and trainer David Zenobi and the reports are Zednik is doing a lot of physical work and is expected to be in good shape when training camp kicks off.

Kilger Suspended

from On Frozen Pond,
The Panthers have officially suspended Chad Kilger without pay, word is retroactive to March 1. That’s probably a nice chunk of change. Figure he makes $800,000 per season, so during a 28-week season, that’s $28,571 per week on that scale; $15,384 over a 52-game pay period minus taxes, etc.
I now expect Mr. Kilger to clear up those personal issues rather promptly and find an Air Canada flight direct to Fort Lauderdale..
a little more on the Panthers…

via TSN,
Chad Kilger, acquired by Florida in a trade with Toronto, was granted a leave of absence by the Panthers on Wednesday due to personal reasons.
Just one day after Kilger was sent to the Panthers by the Maple Leafs, the forward sat out when Florida faced his former team at home.
Kilger flew back to Toronto after meeting with Jacques Martin, the Panthers coach and general manager, and team officials said it wasn’t known when he would return.
