A Dream Come True For Higgins
by Paul on 07/01/09 at 07:12 AM ET

from Dave Stubbs of Habs Inside/Out,
Christopher Higgins’s mother, Sue, is thrilled beyond words on Long Island, her son soon to be playing much nearer home. His father, Bobby, is another matter. A Canadiens fan “for 50 years,” Higgins says, Bobby Higgins is burying his son’s Canadiens paraphernalia. Or at least putting it behind closed doors in the basement for now....
I reached Higgins at his summer home on Long Island, where the day’s trade to the New York Rangers was still sinking in. He spoke glowingly of his time in Montreal and of the fans in this city, no matter their voice on any particular night.
New York is a dream come true. But leaving Montreal doesn’t happen without many memories being stirred.

Canadiens Lost Two Players Last Night

via TSN,
The Montreal Canadiens will be without the services Mathieu Dandenault indefinitely after the forward/defenceman suffered a broken left arm in Tuesday’s 4-1 victory over the Calgary Flames.
Dandenault left the game 14:58 into the second period with his arm dangling after he was hit into the corner from an odd angle by Flames forward Dustin Boy. The hit is what appeared to have caused the injury.
Forward Christopher Higgins also suffered an ‘’upper body’’ injury in the contest. He will have an MRI on Wednesday to asses the extent of the injury.

Finding Chris Higgins

from Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette,
Canadiens head coach Guy Carbonneau thinks Christopher Higgins suffers from an identity crisis.
“Chris has to understand what kind of player he is,” Carbonneau said after the Canadiens practised yesterday at the Bell Centre. “He’s an up-and-down skater who has to go straight to the net. We want him to be the player we drafted. He has 21 goals and, if you look at them, 15 or 16 of them were scored from five feet away from the net.”
Higgins, who is his worst critic, has struggled at times this season and Carbonneau feels it’s because the left-winger is trying to do too much.

Higgins Shooting For 40

from the CP via Yahoo,
With Higgins’ combination of speed, skill and willingness to battle for pucks, the only question now is how much of an impact player he will become.
He had 23 goals as a rookie in 2005-06 and 22 last season, despite missing 21 games either sick or injured. The No. 40 was suggested and the six-foot-200-pound Higgins nodded.
“I definitely think I’m capable of reaching 40 goals,” he said. “That’s a good marker for me.
