“It’s individuals in charge of a team game. If you want to be individuals, go play tennis or golf. We live with it. It’s the rules, we play by them, but my view is you’re putting individuals in charge of a team game.”

Anderson Building Fan Following In Denver

from Tim Wharnsby of CBC,

Craig Anderson hasn’t made the Colorado Avalanche faithful forget about the heroics of hall of famer Patrick Roy, but the new netminder has eased the pain.

After Roy closed his career in 2003, David Aebischer, Jose Theodore and Peter Budaj took turns trying, but failed to adequately replace the four-time Stanley Cup champion.

The 28-year-old Anderson is only 11 games into his tenure with the Avalanche — but so far, so good. He has not only won a place in the hearts of the local hockey fans and his teammates, he has played himself into the United States Olympic team picture.

“A lot of it has to do with opportunity, but some of it also has to do with being prepared for getting that opportunity every night,” said Anderson when asked to explain his success in the first four weeks of the NHL season.

Anderson Always Wanted To Play For The Avs

from Adrian Dater of All Things Avs,

It used to be everybody wanted to come to Denver to play for the Avalanche. Not so, anymore, as a last-place finish and a much tighter payroll have taken some of the luster off Colorado as an NHL destination.

To Craig Anderson, however, the Avalanche might as well still be considered Shangri-La.

Spurning offers from several other teams, Anderson signed a two-year, $3.6 million free-agent contract with the Avs on Wednesday and is expected to be the team’s No. 1 goalie this coming season.

“It’s a dream come true,” Anderson said. “It was the place I wanted to be, a city I’ve always loved. I think it’s a great opportunity for me, and I want to be part of the solution bringing the team back.”

Keep Winning, Keep Playing

from Steve Gorten of the Sun-Sentinel,

As long as the Panthers keep winning with Craig Anderson in goal, he’ll remain the starter.

Coach Pete DeBoer said after Thursday’s 2-1 win against the Sabres at BankAtlantic Center that Anderson will make his fifth consecutive start Saturday against the Bruins.

Anderson began the season clearly the team’s No. 2 netminder behind Tomas Vokoun, but has emerged as a co-starter the past nine days.

Anderson made 45 saves Thursday while facing 46 shots – both season highs. The Panthers finished with 25 shots.

Panthers Goaltender Seizing The Moment

from Pierre LeBrun of ESPN,

Major Le-Brownie points for those of you who can guess off the top of your head which goaltender leads the NHL in save percentage with a sparkling .948 and is second in goals-against average at 1.87.

Tick-tock, tick- tock ...

That would be Craig Anderson, who tonight is making his third consecutive start for Florida as the Panthers play host Washington.

“You just have to seize the moment when it comes and be ready for it,” Anderson told ESPN.com last night, explaining his recent success. “If you’re not ready when you get your opportunity, you’ll look foolish.”

Mornng Line

from the Miami Herald,

(Craig) Anderson hasn’t surrendered a goal in 2 hours, 27 minutes, 46 seconds of game time. Philadelphia’s Daniel Briere was the last to beat him, on Feb. 23. Anderson, Florida’s backup to Tomas Vokoun, has also stopped 105 consecutive shots. Since the new year began, Anderson has won five of six starts.

‘’This could happen to anyone, I’m just trying to work hard in practice to make sure I’d be ready when I did get the call,’’ said Anderson, who made 40 saves Tuesday after making 53 Sunday against the Islanders. ``It starts by working hard in practice and battling for the guys there. The guys are definitely pulling together. It’s good to see. These last two have just been terrific.’’
