Carcillo Doesn’t Plan To Change His Game After Suspension
by Paul on 11/02/11 at 08:16 PM ET

via Jesse Rogers of ESPN Chicago,
“There is no way I’ll ever conform or change my game just because how tight the game is being called now,” Carcillo said Wednesday after practice in South Florida.
Carcillo was suspended after boarding Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Joni Pitkanen last Friday in a 3-0 Hurricanes win.
“It’s Joni Pitkanen,” Carcillo said. “Ask around the league. He’s a big guy but he doesn’t play like it.”
No penalty was called on the play but the NHL reviewed the tape and determined the hit was questionable and cited Carcillo’s history as part of the suspension. This was the fifth time in his career he’s been suspended, but the first for an illegal check.
“If I change my game I won’t be playing in this league anymore,” Carcillo continued. “The way the game is being played now, it’s just a matter of time before something happens. It’s in the past now but (I) have to move forward. It was a quick play, it happened and that’s that.”

Carcillo Faces Disciplinary Action

via NHL.com,
Chicago Blackhawks forward Daniel Carcillo will have a disciplinary hearing Saturday afternoon because of a hit in a game Friday night on Carolina defenseman Joni Pitkanen.
Carcillo hit Pitkanen behind the Carolina net 1:45 into the contest and was not penalized on the play.
I saw the hit live last night and thought it should have been a penalty. Basically Carcillo gave on of those pushes to the side/back of Pitkanen that caused him to go into the back boards heavily.
added 4:43pm, video of the hit can be watched below…
added 9:16pm, Carcillo received a two game suspension, Rob Blake video is the 2nd one below…

Flyers Carcillo Suspended 2 Games Next Season
by Alanah McGinley on 05/17/11 at 02:06 PM ET

New York—Philadelphia Flyers’ forward Daniel Carcillo has been suspended for the period covering two regular season games, without pay, for his actions off the ice following the first period of Game #4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Boston Bruins on May 6, the National Hockey League announced today.
National Hockey League Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations Mike Murphy reached the decision following a hearing into the matter on May 13. The hearing was conducted pursuant to article 18.1 (on-ice discipline) and 18.2 (off-ice discipline) of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, NHL By-Law 17 and Article 6 of the NHL Constitution as a result of an incident outside of the officials’ locker room following the first period and a verbal confrontation with linesman Brian Murphy at the players’ bench prior to the start of the second period.
“Between the first and second period, while off ice and outside the officials’ locker room, Mr. Carcillo engaged in aggressive behavior and inappropriate conduct directed at the officials,” said Murphy. “While Mr. Carcillo acknowledged in the hearing that he regrets his actions outside of the officials’ room, there can be no defense for his conduct.
“I also reviewed the verbal confrontation between Carcillo and linesman Brian Murphy at the players’ bench prior to the start of the second period and have determined that, while the verbal abuse may have been worthy of a penalty, there is no evidence that Carcillo’s action merit supplemental discipline,” concluded Murphy.

from Daniel Carcillo as told to Steve Greenberg of the Sporting News via MSNBC,
Here are his 10 tips for surviving and thriving as a middleweight fighter…
Even a bleeder has to have thick skin
I know hockey fights supposedly are about showing up — not who wins and who loses — but when you get beat up, it’s pretty tough to swallow. It’s embarrassing, especially when it happens in front of 18,000 people and the 40 guys on both benches. Bouncing back is the biggest thing. It’s like being a closer in baseball.
Update 3:18pm ET (alanah): Just a quick FYI about this article—bear in mind that it was originally published back in May. MSNBC picked it up without noting the original publication date.

The New Enforcer

from Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal,
The NHL has its destroyers (Georges Laraque), true heavies (Jody Shelley, Derek Boogaard) and agitators like Zack Stortini of the Edmonton Oilers and Daniel Carcillo of the Phoenix Coyotes.
Agitators are often big on talking and hitting, but they also back it up.
Carcillo, in particular, spends an inordinate amount of time sitting next to the timekeeper in the penalty box.
