Booth has struggled this season, but watching the camp and also watching David Booth I could argue that he is the best pure “sniper” the Americans have and his slow start is a testament to this. Snipers are by their nature streaky players. Right now he is ice cold, but if Booth gets hot at the right time you would probably want him on your top unit. Booth is the Joey Mullen of this group.
-Dwayne (Eklund) in his Team USA outlook today. Dwayne has David Booth on the taxi-squad (there isn’t one) and by his remarks, is oblivious to the fact that Booth has been out with a concussion since October 28th.
Not the first time Dwayne has showed his lack of hockey knowledge and won’t be the last.
added 8:02pm, Craig Custance of the Sporting News spoke with Booth recently. You have to feel for the guy and let’s hope the NHL does something about the hits to the head.
added 11/20/09 7:36am, Well what do you know, Dwayne changed his post without mentioning any correction. This folks, is how he deceives people…

Booth Stops All Workouts

from Steve Gorten of the Sun-Sentinel,
Panthers coach Pete DeBoer said it was a “mutual decision” between him and injured winger David Booth (concussion) not to have Booth travel on this three-game trip, which includes a stop in his hometown for Friday’s game against the Detroit Red Wings.
DeBoer said it was made because Booth has suffered a setback in his rehab after increasing the intensity of his exercise last week. For now, he has stopped exercising.
“We’ve kind of taken our foot off the gas and given him a few days off before we look to go back at it again,” DeBoer said. “But that’s anticipated. We knew going through this process there was going to be good days and bad. You just have to take them in stride.”

Booth Not Close To Playing

from Steve Gorten of the Sun-Sentinel,
The only news out of practice this morning: Coach Pete DeBoer said winger David Booth (concussion) is “weeks away from playing.”
The Panthers have taken great caution to bring Booth along slowly since he suffered his first-ever concussion Oct. 24 in Philadelphia. He has started exercising lightly, but has yet to start skating.
I feel bad for Booth because the Panthers will play the Red Wings on Friday in his hometown of Detroit and once again Booth won’t be able to play because of injury. He missed the teams’ matchup in Motor City two years ago because he was hurt, though he did make the trip so he could at least be there.
DeBoer said there’s a chance he’ll go along with the Panthers this time, too. Personally, I think it’ll happen. Plus, it’d be good for his morale to be around his teammates a bit.

Booth Still Experiencing Concussion Symptoms

via Steve Gorten of the Sun-Sentinel,
Update on David Booth: He’s coming along slowly and is expected to be at Incredible Ice tommorrow, but still has some post-concussion symptoms.
“It’s going to be baby steps here as we go forward,” Pete said. “It’s too early to really be testing him on anything. With any kind of concussion like that, the first thing to do is to get rid of all the symptoms. Once he’s symptom free you can start trying some different things and we’re not to that stage yet.”

David Booth Update

via George Richards of On Frozen Pond,
David Booth met with his teammates and then the media on Tuesday. DeBoer gave him a warm greeting. Basically Booth says he gets bad headaches and can only read or watch tv for five minutes at a time. He has cuts on his nose and a bad black right eye. He says he doesn’t remember much but has seen replays of the hit. He was very diplomatic and would not say whether he thought the hit was dirty, nor if Mike Richards should be suspended. Booth also said that Richards text messaged him yesterday wishing him a quick recovery. Booth says he hasn’t replied yet, saying he gets headaches when he texts.

Reactions To Richards Hit On Booth
by Paul on 10/25/09 at 09:38 AM ET

from Chuck Gormley of Flyer Files,
Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren defended Richards and called out Sexton, saying, “Randy should watch more hockey games.”
“It was a good hit,” Holmgren said. “I don’t see how they can (suspend him). Mike was doing his job. He was back tracking, he caught up to the play. His feet never left the ice. David Booth turned his head or it would have been a shoulder on shoulder hit. It’s a physical game and sometimes these things happen.
“Everybody in the league knows Mike isn’t a dirty player. He’s a player every team in the league covets.”…
Several Panthers were angered by the hit and said they thought Richards should be suspended.
“This is the same stuff we’re trying to put an end to,” Panthers defenseman Keith Ballard said. “He tried to hurt him. I understand it’s a split-second decision, but you’d think he’d have more respect than that. … He’s a good player and he plays hard and we respect that, but he did the exact same thing to (Thrashers forward) Colby Armstrong a few years ago.
Mike Richards is a good honest player, except when he does (stuff) like that and he’s done it before.

from George Richards of On Frozen Pond,
Florida Panthers winger David Booth is alert and moving after being taken off the ice on a stretcher after a hard hit to the head from Philadelphia Flyers captain Mike Richards on Saturday night.
Booth, 25, remained motionless on the ice after the dangerous hit administered by the Flyers star. Booth was taken to Pennsylvania Hospital in south Philadelphia where he was expected to remain at least until Sunday.
Team athletic trainer Steve Dischiavi rode to the hospital with Booth and will remain with him until he can return to South Florida. The Panthers boarded a jet soon after Saturday’s game.
‘’They are doing a whole host of tests just to make sure everything is OK,’’ said general manager Randy Sexton. ‘’I don’t know [if Booth had a concussion]. It’s too early to tell. The injury just happened. We’ll have a much clearer picture in the morning. He was moving his extremities and was awake when he left the ice.’’

David Booth Update

From George Richards at On Frozen Pond,
Word out of One Panther Parkway is that all is well with the young Mr. Booth, and his scheduled MRI is now not needed.
According to spokesman Justin Copertino, Booth flew home with the team last night and met with team trainer Curtis Bell today. All seems fine. David is hurting a bit, understandable, and is wearing a precautionary neck brace.
Booth will not practice Monday at the Ice (10:30 a.m., open to public) and isn’t expected back until later in the week. So it’s good news: no permanent damage, just some soreness. “Kind of like he was in a car wreck,’’ Copertino said. Yep, that’s about what it looked like last night.

Panthers’ Booth Leaves Game on Stretcher
by Alanah McGinley on 10/20/07 at 09:26 PM ET

From The Sports Network,
Florida Panthers left wing David Booth was removed from the ice on a stretcher during the second period of a game against the Ottawa Senators Saturday night.
Booth was in the offensive left corner when he was checked from behind by Ottawa defenseman Anton Volchenkov with 15:12 left in the period. Booth’s head went flush into the boards and he remained on his back until medical personnel assisted him to the stretcher.
Volchenkov was given a five-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct.
Update 10:45pm ET - George Richards at On Frozen Pond
Booth has been taken to the Ottawa Civic Hospital, said to be alert and moving around. The Panthers are optimistic doctors at the hospital will release him and he’ll be able to make the charter flight home. [...]
The hit by Volchenkov may have been in retaliation for a similar hit just moments earlier. There, Florida defenseman Branislav Mezei sent Nick Foligno into the boards. Foligno had to be helped off the ice…
