Hatcher Back On The Ice
by Paul on 04/14/09 at 02:39 PM ET

from Ed Moran of the Philadelphia News,
There have been rumors all season that Flyers defenseman Derian Hatcher would make it back on the ice in time for the playoffs.
And this morning, there he was.
But don’t get ahead. Hatcher is joining the team in a player/coach role and will be traveling with the Flyers through the playoffs.
“Paul [Holmgren, general manager] just asked me to travel with the team yesterday,” Hatcher said. “Obviously I said yes. They want me to be more of a player role than a coaching role and be around the guys, joke around, help them out when I can or whatever.”

Hatcher Helped By Rehab
by Paul on 10/14/08 at 07:06 AM ET

from Anthony SanFilippo of the Daily Times,
“I’ve been rehabbing like crazy, and to be honest with you, it feels pretty good,” Hatcher said. “I had it drained and then shot up with cortisone and there’s been no fluid build-up since, and that’s the most important thing.”
Hatcher has said all along that his knee felt no worse than it did during the playoffs last spring. The Flyers’ doctors have not cleared him to play, but Hatcher is champing at the bit to get back.
“I still think I can play,” Hatcher said. “I’m not ready for it to be over yet. I still think I can get back and that remains my goal.”

Hatcher Will ‘Go Out’ On His Terms
by Paul on 09/24/08 at 08:13 AM ET

from Wayne Fish at phillyBurbs,
Hatcher, who’s starting the year on the injured reserve list, knows his crippled knee probably won’t get better.
Heck, it got worse over the summer when he wasn’t playing, and he would like to end his career on his own terms.
The reality of the situation is this: While some conspiracy theory types suggest the Flyers are pressuring Hatcher to call it quits now to save money on a badly strained salary cap number, the 36-year-old player says the decision is up to him....
“As tough as it is, you’re never prepared to stop playing hockey. If this is it, I’ve had a great career and that’s what I’ll take.’’

Hatcher Will Start Season On Long-Term Injury
by Paul on 09/18/08 at 02:15 PM ET
Comments (1)
from Ed Moran of the Philadelphia Daily News,
Hatcher’s name will appear on the roster for the first game of the season and then immediately be moved to the long-term injury list.
The move allows the Flyers to create some breathing room by subtracting his $3.5 million salary from the overall cap total and gives Hatcher time to continue trying to rehab his degenerated right knee.

Did Hatcher Bite Zajac
by Paul on 01/05/08 at 12:45 AM ET

from the AP via TSN,
...Hatcher’s version of the story was different.
“If he’s cut, good, but I didn’t bite him,” Hatcher said. “I didn’t think anything of it until someone mentioned it to me.
“He went like that (face wash) right across my face. He got his glove on my tooth, almost pulled it out. It’s all sore.”
Hatcher could face an NHL suspension, especially if there is video showing him biting Zajac. Devils coach Brent Sutter saw one replay, but didn’t get a total picture of what happened.
“It shows Trav pulling his hand away with the glove still in Hatcher’s mouth, like a dog on a bone,” Sutter said. “It’s not something you like to see in the game, let alone a veteran player like that.”
