All Dustin Brown

from Rich Hammond of Inside the Kings,

Here’s what Dustin Brown had to say today about the Kings’ needs and his thoughts about where they’re headed

Question: If Dean Lombardi comes to you and asks you what this team needs in order to improve, what do you tell him?

BROWN: ``From a personnel standpoint right now, what sticks out in my mind is left wing. I’m playing left wing, and I have no problem playing left wing, but I think Terry prefers me on right wing. I’ve played the last 15 games or so on the left, and it has definitely taken some time to get adjusted to. We also had Zeus (Michal Handzus) playing left wing, and he’s a natural center. He’s been one of our better centers this year and he’s great on faceoffs. He was playing left wing for five or six games. We got rid of Cammy (Michael Cammalleri) last year, and with Sully (Patrick O’Sullivan) getting dealt at the deadline this year, it feels like, from a personnel standpoint or a positional standpoint, it’s left wing.’’

Question: That question is not meant as disrespect to anyone in the room, of course…

BROWN: ``No, not at all. But when you look at our lineup, Fro (Alexander Frolov) plays left wing, but I would prefer the right side and I think Zeus would prefer to play center obviously. We were putting one of our best faceoff men on the wing, so that obviously shows a need.’’

The Maturing Of Dustin Brown

from Terry Frei at ESPN,

In 2003, winger Dustin Brown arrived in the Los Angeles Kings locker room as a reserved teenager with a slight lisp that sometimes made him additionally self-conscious.

One of his teammates was Luc Robitaille, and Brown almost felt as if he should walk up to Robitaille in tandem with Robitaille’s son, Steven, and ask for his allowance.

“I was closer to Luc’s son’s age than to Luc’s age,” Brown said with a smile after the Kings’ morning skate in Denver on Tuesday.

Only five years later, his maturation and transformation are stunning.

Brown’s relentlessly energetic, pedal-to-the-metal game and his tendency to play far “bigger” than his listed 6-foot-1 and 203 pounds remain attention-getting, but he also has progressed so far as a leader, the “C” on his sweater this season seems to fit.

Morrow Facing Suspension

from Mike Heika of the Dallas Stars Blog,

It’s one step forward and two steps back for the Stars, who ended their three-game California road trip with a 3-2 shootout loss to the Los Angeles Kings and might lose their captain for the next game.

Sticking up for teammate Mike Ribeiro, who was knocked into the boards by Kings forward Dustin Brown, Morrow started a fight with Brown and received an instigator penalty in the final five minutes of a game....

Ribeiro was in a shooting position when Brown hit him, and Ribeiro flew into the boards and hit his head. He received stitches over his left eye, but did return to the game and made an incredible goal to help extend the shootout.

What A Comeback

Normally I don’t do game recaps, but last night the Kings were down 4-0 going into the 3rd period and came back to win 6-5 in OT…

from the AP via NHL.com,

Marty Turco didn’t seem too rattled after Dustin Brown spoiled his shutout bid with 7:14 left in the third period. After all, the Dallas Stars still had a three-goal lead, so what could possibly spoil it?

How about five goals on six shots?…

“The whole third period was brutal,” Turco said. “Other than embarrassing, it’s a total lack of respect for each other. You can’t just sit back and wait for it to go your way. You’ve got to make things happen. And we haven’t been making enough happen. We were just lucky to get a point out of all that.”
